' CIRCUIT-CLOSER FOR BURGLAR-ALARMS;
To all'whomitmaycomem:
Be it known that I, G. D ann- RICH, a citizen of the United States,res1d1ng at Huron, in the county of Beadle, State of South Dakota, have invented certaln new and useful Improvementsin Circuit-Closers for Burglar-Alarms, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the'invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relatesto new and useful improvements in circuit closers and particularly to circuit closers which areadapted for use in connection with burglar alarm systems.
One object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved form of circuit closer whereby when a shutter or door is moved toward open position a circuit will be closed and an alarm sounded ata distant. point to apprise the owner'of the attempted unauthorized entrance. 1
Another object is to provide a novel and improved form of switch having novel means for limiting the upward movement of the arm thereof.
A further object is to provide a novel and improved means for moving the switch arm into circuit closing position.
' Other objects and advantages will be ap parent from the following description when taken in connection with'the accompanying drawing.
In the drawin Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of a shutter and sill of a window showing the invention applied thereto and in position to be operated. a
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section on the line 4-4 of F 1g. 3, looking in the direction of the ar-' I'OWS.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 20represents the sill of a window frame, and 21 a portion of a shutter mounted to swing therein. Mounted on the outer face of the sill 20 is an L-shaped bracket 13, and secured to the outwardly extending arm of said bracket is the base 14 of the circuit closing device. Disposed through this base and insulated therefrom, are the binding screws 17 and 18, the former of which pivotally supports the switch arm 15 and frictionally maintains it in any posispecifi cation'ot Letters Patent. a plication filed April 17, 1918. tion, while the latter supportsia pair of spring jaws l6, between which the said switch arm is adapted to be engaged to close the circuit. conductor wire 19, which leads to asuitable source-of electricity (not, shown), while. a conductor wire 19 leads from the other screw 18 to the said source of electricity. Also mounted on the base, and at the lower portion of the outer end thereof, is an L- shaped bracket 28, the outer end of the horizontal arm of which receives slidable ver- Connected to the screw 17 is a tically therethrough, the rod 29, the upper end of said rod being movably connected to the switch arm 15, while the lower end of said rod is formed with a laterally turned portion 29 for engagement with the horizontal arm of the bracket 28, to serve as a stop, and limit the upward movement of the switch arm.
Mounted on the outer face ofithe lower end of the free edge portion of the shutter 20, is a bracket 23, said bracket being formed with. an outwardly extending pair of parallel and perforated arms 24, between which is disposed the trip lever 25, said lever being mounted to swing on the pivot pin 24, carried by the arms 24 and disposed through said lever. The lower end of the lever is provided with a weight 26 for holding the lever normally in a vertical position. Extending outwardly from the lower end of the bracket 23 is the horizontal arm 27 thereof, and against this arm the lower weighted end of the lever is arranged to abut to prevent swinging or pivotal movement thereof in a direction toward the shutter.
It will be noted that when the switch arm' is in raised position, and the shutter is moved toward open position, the weighted end of the lever 25 will engage with and depress the lever into position between the contact blades or jaws 16, with the result that the circuit will be closed and an alarm sounded to notify the owner that an at-' circuit closer consisting of a base plate, a switch blade pivoted on said base, contact plates adapted to be engaged by said blade, a bracket on the base, a stop device pivoted on said blade and engaged with the bracket for limiting the movement of the latter, and a trip for throwing said blade into contact with said plates.
2. In a circuit closer the combination with a movable object and a stationary object, a switch including an arm mounted on the stationary object, a bracket mounted on the movable object and provided with a projecting portion, and a swinging lever mounted on the bracket for engagement with the said projecting portion and the switch arm to move said arm into circuit closing position when the movable object is moved in one direction and to return without moving said arm when the movable object is moved in the opposite direction, said projecting portion being of such a'length as to avoid contact with the switch arm at all times.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM C. DIEDERICH. Witnesses:
