To all 'whom may concern Be it known that I, Janes MGC/ANN, a citizen of the llnited States, residing at Gage, in the county of Musselshell and `wtate of ldontanaj have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heating-Steven of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates 'to heating stoves, and more particularly to what are known as base heater stoves.
The obj ect of the invention is to construct a heater of this character with means lior utilizing heat which has been heretofore wasted.
Another object is to construct a heater of this character with an additional chamber arranged between the ash pan containing chamber and the heat and smoke flues to provide for the utilization of the heat from said iiues which was heretofore absorbed or smothered by the ash pan, and which is equipped with deflectors for throwing the heated air out of the chamber into the surrounding atmosphere.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds,the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

1n the embodiment illustrated, a base heater stove is shown, equipped with this improvement.
The usual iiue chamber 1 is shown having an ash pan receiving chamber 2 disposed above it and between which chamber is arranged an intermediate chamber 3 which may be termed, and is hereinafter called a heat liberating chamber.' The ash pan chamber 2 has no communication with the upstanding flue 4. Chamber 1 constitutes what is known as the flue chamber in stoves of this character and with which communicate the down draft flues 5 and 6 and the up draft flue 4. i
The chamber 3 which constitutes the gist of this invention has side doors 8 hinged at 9 to open downwardly and each carrying on its inner face a raclr bar 10 which is designed for interlocking engagement with a *flange 11 inside the chamber and as here shown formed on the outer edge of a doublede- Y flector 12, the two members of .which evtend` .that the doors are opened may be controlled by the engagement of the rack bars 10 with the flanges 11. This deflector 12 is shown composed of two members which are shown integral, being united at their lower edges whereby a deiiector Vshaped in cross section is provided. A front door 13 is hinged at 14 at the front of chamber 3 to open upwardly and carries on its inner face a curved rack bar 15 designed to engage an upstanding lug 16 at the bottom of chamber 3 near its front as is shown clearly in 1. The raclr bars 10 and 15 are all pivotally mounted and provided on the outside of the chamber with actuating handles 17 so that when it is desired to open the doors the bars are swung to disengage them from their coperating locking elements and the doors then open to the proper distance and the bars swing back into engagement with said elements. This arrangement of the doors provides for a draft in chamber 3 when all the doors are open, the air entering through the door opening of door 13 and passing out through the door opening of doors 8.

in the use of this improved stove, the heat from the iiue chamber 1 which is usually absorbed by the ash pan disposed directly over it is radiated into chamber 8 and passed out through the side openings at the will of the owner according to the adjustment of the respective doors. VEhe deflector 12 is removably mounted in the chamber 3 so that if desired it may be taken out for cleaning and other purposes through the front opening which is closed by the door 18.
The foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove expedient and fall withinV the scope ot' the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure-by Letters Patent, iszl. Ar .baseA heater for stoves having a flue chamber and an ash pan containing chamber arranged thereover with a heat liberating chamberdisposed between them, oppositely with its apex resting on the bottom of the chamber and operable to discharge the heated air through the door openings.

A base heater for stoves having a iue chamber and an ash pan containing chamberl arranged thereover with a heat liberating chamber' disposed between them, oppositely disposed doors for said heat liberating' chamber, a deliector substantially V-shaped in cross section arranged in said chamber with its apex resting on the bottom of the chamber and operable to discharge the heated air through said doors, said delectors having depending ianges on their outer edges, and a rack bar carried by each of said doors for cooperative engagement with one of said flanges to holdthe doors in adjusted position.
