i To all 'whom t may concern'.
disk Wheels for vehicles,
Be it known' that we, THoMs C.- BURN and FRANK K. HUrrMAN, citizens fof the' United States, residing at Jackson, vJackson county, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful ImprovementsdmDisk Wheels, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relatesto improvements in particularly automobiles. 4
The objectof our invention is to produce a very simple and strong demountable diskv wheel for automobiles.
Objects relating tov details and economies of construction and operation will definitely appear from y the detailed description to follow.
We accomplish the objects of ourhinven-v tion by the devices and means described 1n the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims. l
structure which is a preferred embodiment of` our invention isfully illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part 'i of this specification, in which:
The single figure iS a radial sectional view from the center of the wheel through the .receive a usu rim.
The main disk 1 is flanged into a demountable hub shell 2-at the center. It has a right angle rim lian e 3 formed at its periphery to or any suitable wheel rim 4. The auxiliary disk 5 is at the vback of the wheel and oined at its periphery to the main disk 1 y spot welding at 6. The auX- ili'ary disk 5 is conformed 'at the center to .engage thepermanent hub 12 of an automobile and f isr turned at 7 and ianged outwardly at 8 where it is joined centrally to -the main'disk 1 by arc-welding 9. The auX- iliary disk 5 is perforated by a series of holes indicated at 10 to receive the lugs or pins l1, which are disposed onlthe permanent hub 12.,
A hub nut 13 is provided for the outer end of theI permanent hub 12, anda hub cap 14 embraces the' outer end o f the hub 2', thus protecting the same against damage.
We haveshown the 'engaging pins engagthe auxiliary disk 5, but the pins might be carried by thedisk and engage the permanent hub. We have shown a simp e co/nstruction of hub nut and cap adapted to this device, but desire to state that others could be adapted thereto in this relation. We desire to claim the invention broadly and also specifically, as pointed out in the appended c aims;
' -Having thus described our invention whsit we claim as new' anddesire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1.v In a disk wheel construction, the combination of a convexed main disk of sheet metal, with a hub formed integrally therewith, an auxiliary disk convexed and secured to the main disk by spot-welding at' itsperiphery land conformedto engage an engaging portion. of the permanent hub at the center, withy suitable central out-turned flange secured to the main disk by welding,`
and perforated to engage coupling pins on a permanent hub.
2. In'a disk-,wheel construction, thecombi nation of a vconvened main disk of Sheet metal, with a' hub formed integrally therewith, and fianged at its periphery to receive the rim of an automobile wheel, and an auxiliary disk convexed and secured to the main disk by spot welding atits periphery and conformed to engage an engaging portion of thepermanent hub at the center, with .flange secured to the main disk by welding,
as specified.
` In witness whereof, We have hereunto set om: hands and seals in the presence of two Witnesses. i
