I! I4 will Emlz INVENTOR.
A TTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO A. GERDES' AND EMIL GUTI'I, 01 BLUE ISLAND,;ILLINOIS.
SPARK-INTENSIFIER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, OTTo A. Grimes and EMIL GUTH, citizens of the United States, residing at Blue Island, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spark-Intensifiers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a spark intensifier and aims to provide a device of that character adapted especially for use upon old or worn spark plugs to renew the life and efficiency thereof and tointensify the spark upon new spark plugs.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a spark intensifier of extremely simple construction so that the same may be cheaply manufactured and will serve the purposes in a thoroughly practical and eflicacious manner.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a spark intensifier that forms a gap over which the spark wilhjump for intensifying same, said gap having a plurality of teeth upon each side so as to greatly increase the efficiency of the device.
With the above and other objects in view this invention consists of certain novel combinations, arrangement and construction of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a top plan View of my invention,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of my invention, and
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken through our invention.
By referring to the accompanying drawings by numerals, it will be seen that in trying out the invention, there is provided an elongated strip 1, of fiber or other suitable insulating. material having apertures adjacent each end for a purpose to be hereafter brought forth.
Situated about this strip 1 we have provided a pair ofcasings 2 which surround Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Jan 11, 1921 Application filed May 26, 1920.
Serial No. 384,486.
the spark plug indicated in dotted lines in F g. 2, is provided with a stem extending through one set of the apertures while at the other end of the strip 1 and the other casing 2 we have provided a screw 6 having a head at one end and threads at its other end for receiving the nut 7 whereby the connection 8 may be electrically connected with theadjacent housing 2. Thus the current will be passed from the source to the spark plug as is usual in internal combustion engines.
The above description of our invention refers to the preferred embodiment thereof but it will be readily seen that many changes in the construction of parts and shapes thereof may be made without departing from the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a spark intensifier comprising an elongated insulating strip having apertures adjacent each end, a pair of casings situated upon said strip and provided with apertures adapted to register with the apertures in said strip and situated so as to provide a gap therebetween.
As a new article of manufacture, a spark intensifier comprising an insulating strip having apertures in each end, casings situated upon said strip so as to leave a gap between the casings, said casings provided with teeth adapted to border on said gap.
3. As a new article of 'manufaeture, a spark intensifier comprising a strip of insulating material having apertures in each end, a pair of similarly formed casings provided on said strip and having apertures adapted to register with the apertures in said strip, said casings situated so as to pro- OTTO A. GERDES. EMIL GUTH.
