IMPROVEMENT IN LASTING BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent N0. 136,476, dated March 4, 1873.
To all whom it muy concern Be it known that I, JOSEPH C. WIGHTMAN, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Process of Lasting Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a specification:

Description of the Drawing.
Figure l represents the sole of a shoe after being lasted and after the application of my binder. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the last and shoe. Fig. 3 is an enlarged view to illustrate the method more fully.
General Description.
To last a boot or shoe by my process I proceed as follows: The inner sole is applied and trimmed as usual, then the vamp is closely and accurately' fitted to the last and inner sole 1 and glued to the same. The overlying edge B', Fig. 3, of the vamp and the inner sole is now spread with some suitable adhesive mixture, like hot glue, for instance, and the binder A forcibly pressed down both upon the inner sole andthe edge of the vamp, and then held until the adhesive mixture sets or dries. This completes the process and the shoe is ready to receive the outer sole.
I claim as my invention- In the process of lasting a boot or shoe, the combination of the inner sole D With the vamp B and the binder A, when said binder A is used as a part of the shoe distinct from the outer sole, for the purpose set forth, substantially as described.
