To all whom it may concern. I

Be it known that I, BENJAMIN FonMAN,

of the city of Rochester, county of Monroe,

and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties; and I do hereby declare the following .to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part ofthis specification, and to the reference-numerals marked thereon.

This invention has reference to wearing apparel and, more specifically, to neckties, the chief object of the invention being to provide a necktie of neat appearance and convenient form having a cover portion folded about a lining or filling portion, with the fabric parts of the ends or tips'of the tie so arranged and secured that the cover may be quickly and easily unfolded and laid flat to expose the parts for cleaning, or. pressing out the creases, without however disconnecting the cover and lining, so that the latter parts are maintained in their proper relative positions, and may be quickly restored to condition for use. To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.

Similar reference characters in the several figures indicate the same parts' The embodiment of the" invention preferred at the present time, as best illustrating the principles involved, comprises a necktie or scarf havin a neck portion 5 and tying ends 6 and 7, preferably protected by fabric facing :8. The tie comprises a cover portion 9, of silk or other suitable material, preferably folded as at 10 and 11 so that its edges meet or e neck portion being overlap along the back of the tie inclosing a lining 12 inserted for the purpose of giv ing body to the tie to maintain its shape, the lining including one or more layers of any fabrlc suitable for the urpose.

The lining is prefer-a ly secured to a lateral edge of one of the folded portions 10 and 11 of the cover, being in the present .instance secured to the edge of the folded portion 10 in any suitable manner, as for instance, by stitching indicated at 13. The lining 1s thus securely attached to the tie cover so that it is always maintained in its proper position relative thereto during the wearing of the tie. and while manipulating the parts in carrying out the purposes of the present invention as hereinafter described.

The lateral edges of the cover portion are provided with means for detachably securing them together about the lining, as illustrated in Fig. 2, comprising some form of snap fastener, as, for example, the ball and socket devices, 1 1 and 15, illustrated in the drawings.

While the structure described is shown in the drawings in connectionwith but one end of the tie, it is obvious that the same construction may be employed for both of the tying ends, and this construction afi'ords a compact and convenient arrangement of the fabric with the cover portions securely attached to each other interiorly thereof throughout their-extent in a form convenient for the use of the tie.

When the tie has become soiled in use or the cover and lining portions wrinkled and creased from repeated tying, the folded portions may be quickly detached from each other at the back of the tie and unfolded in a flat condition with the lining also flat at one side of the central or front portion of the cover. With the parts thus'arranged they may be easily pressed from the back side of the fabric so as not to disfigure the. portion thereof which is visible'in use, and the lin- "ing being to one side may also be pressed without impressing its seams or edges on or otherwise marking the cover. With the parts thus unfolded the fabric is most advantageously arranged for the cleaning it when soiled.

ll claim as my invention:

1. In the tying end of a necktie the combination with a lining of a cover therefor comprising a face and folded over portions, the lining being secured to one folded portion and unattached to the face and other folded portion to enable the cover to be opened and the face pressed Without simultaneously ironing-the lining.

2. A necktie provided with a lining and cover therefor, the latter having a face and folded portions, the lining being secured to one of the folded portions in a plurality of positions longitudinally thereof and unattached to the face and other folded portidn of the cover.

3. A necktie comprising in combination a lining and a cover therefor surrounding the same, a cover comprising a face and folded portions, the lining being secured to a longitudinal edge of one of said folded portions and unattached to the face and other folded portion to enable the lining to be correctly placed and held relatively to the cover and to allow the cover to be opened for ironing the face without pressing the lining at the same time.

4. A necktie comprising a cover folded about a lining, said cover having the edges of its folded portions at the tyin ends arranged to meet at the back of the tie and said lining being secured to one of the folded portions longitudinally thereof but separable from the cover portion except along the longitudinally secured part of said lining, and fastening means for detachably securing said meeting edges together, to permit the unfolding of the cover for manipulation thereof and of the lining while secured to each other in a flat condition.

5. A necktie comprising a cover having a neck portion and tying ends, a lining for one of said ends, said cover end being folded about ,the lining with its folded portions meeting at the back of the tie, lengthwise stitching securing said lining to one of said folded portions, said lining being detachable the tying ends, the longitudinal edges of the cover portion being folded over and detachably connected on the back side of the necktie on one of the tying ends, said cover and said lining being attached on the back side of the necktie, to allow the longitudinal edges of the cover to be detached and the entire face side of a tying end of the cover to be pressed from its rear side without simultaneously pressing any of the lining in the tying ends.

7. necktie comprising a folded cover portion, a lining therefor secured thereto along one of the outer longitudinal edges of said cover portion at a tying end thereof, said lining being detachable from the other portions of said cover to enable the cover to be pressed Without simultaneously pressing the lining and detachable fastenin means for securlng the cover portion in folded posltion.
