MARY ANN CURTIS, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN MEDICAL COMPOUNDS OR OINTMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.1 36,308, dated February 25,1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY ANN (loans, of the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented or discovered an Improved Medical Compound or Ointment; and I do hereby declare that the followingdescription fully and exactly enumerates the ingredients and the proportions of each used, together with directions for its use.
My invention or discovery relates to a medical compound or ointment for the cure of all kinds of inflammations, nervous affections, old sores, burns, scalds, sprains, wounds, fractures, cancers, swellings from poison-oak, piles, salt rheum, contracted sinews, "and various other ailments of the human body.
To make my ointment I take following ingredients, in the proportions mentioned: Leaf tobacco, two (2) pounds; lard, four (4) pounds; red wine, one and a half (1%) gallon beth-root, or Trillium pendulum, two (2) ounces; resin, one and threequarter 15;) ounce; niter, one (1) ounce; and bees-wax in suflicient quantity to give the consistence of ointment.
I first pour the wine upon the leaf tobacco, and allow them to stand for twelve (12) hours. Then I'place them over a fire and boil them until the tobacco-leaves take up all the wine.
I then add the lard, and boil again for a few minutes, to incorporate it also with the leaves. After this I take the leaves thus saturated and subject them to pressure until all of the liquid has been extracted, and to this solution I add In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal.
