To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HERMAN A. on VRY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motion-Picture h-Iachines, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. I
The invention relates to motion picture machines and more particularl to the type 0. 1,303,543 dated May 13, 1919. In said patent, there is set forth film-feeding mechanism comprising intermittent and continuous feed sprockets adapted to operateupon a loop of the. film between co-axial supply and take-up spools and mechanism adapted to guide the. film while it is being rewound to reverse it on a spool. In practice, it has been found that the film-guide of the rewinding mechanism set forth in said patent sometimes causes the edges to become frayed and worn.
The object of the present invention is to provide improved rewinding mechanism in which this objection is overcome.
The invention consists in the several novel features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by claims at the conclu-' sion hereof.

The supply-spool is held upon a sleeve 14 which is supported by a reduced portion 15 of shaft 12. usually through the feed-mechanism. The details of the mechanism thus far described, may be generally similar to those set forth ASSIGNOR TO THE DE VBY CORPORATION,

and, therefore, it is not deemed necessary to set them out with greater particularity.
The supply and take-up spools are similar in construction so that either may be connected to shaft 12 and driven thereby or placed and run idly on the sleeve 14. The spools are frictionally held against overthrow by a spring 19. When the film has been exposed, the supply-spool 10 will be empty and the film will be wound upon the take-up spool 11. Vhen the film is to be rewoun'd toreverse its ends, so that the beginning will be drawn off the spool first, the full spool and the empty spool will be interchanged, so that the empty spool will be held on and rotated by the shaft 12, while the full spool will be placed on the sleeve 14, as shown in Fig. 2. From the supplyspool 10, the film 20 will be threaded to pass under a roller 21 which is rotatable on a shaft 22 which is secured to the fixed side of the case 4. The axis of said spool and shaft are parallel to the axis of the supply and take-up spools.
From roller 21, the film passes upwardly to one side of and half Way around a roller 23 which is rotatable on a shaft 24 which is fixed to the front of the carrying-case to support the roller 23 so its axis will be in substantially right angled relation to the supply and take-up spools. The film passes downwardly from one side of roller 23 to and under a roller 25 which is also mounted 0n the shaft 22 and has its axis substantially parallel to the axis of the takeup spool 11. Rollers 21, 23 and 25 are usually covered with cloth to prevent abrasion of the film. From the roller 25, the film passes to the take-up spool 11. A wire clip 26 has an arm 27 extending over the roller 23 and is adapted to hold the film on said roller. This clip is removably held in the inner end of shaft 24, being extended through a perforation in the shaft. A socket 28 is secured to the inner side of cover 5 to support the outer end of the shaft 22 when the cover is closed. When the cover is open, the end of the shaft 22 will be unsupported so that the'film may be inserted edgewise under the rollers 21 and 25. In rewinding, the shaft 12 will be driven to rotate spool 11 and wind the film upon it. The arrangement of guide-rollers between the take-up and supply spool is such that the film will be guided without any substantial wear on the edges of the film. The diameter of the intermediate roller 23 is such as to take the film on a line with the supply-spool and to pay it out substantially in line with the take-up spool. When the film has been rewound, the spool will be interchanged so that the empty s 001 will be located on the shaft 12 and wil receive the film from the feed-mechanism.
The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details set forth, since these may be modified wjthin the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a motion picture machine, the combination of a carrying-case, supply and take-up spools in the case, film-feed mechanism 1n the case and adapted to operate upon thefilm and pass it from one spool to the other, and means to guide a loop of film in rewinding, comprising a pair of guide rollers substantially parallel with the axes of the supply and take-up spools and an intermediate roller in angled relation to said uide-rollers.
2. n a motion picture machine, the combination of a carrying-ease, supply and take-up spools in the case. film-feed mechanism 1n the case arid adapted to operate upon the film and pass it from one spool to the other, and means to guide a loop of film in rewinding, comprising a pair of guide-rollers substantially arallel with the axes of the supply and ta e-up spools and an intermediate roller in substantially right angled relation to said guide-rollers.
3. In a motion picture machine, the combination of a carrying case, supply and take-up, spools in the case, film-feed mecha- -guide rollers substantially parallel with the axes of the supply and take-up spools and an intermediate roller in substantially right angled relation to said guide rollers.
4. In a motion picture machine, the combination of a carrying case, supply and take-up spools in the case, film-feed mechanism in the case and adapted to operate on.

5. In a motion picture machine, the combination of a carrying case, supply and take-up spools in the case, film-feed mechanism in the case and adapted to operate on the film and pass it from one spool-to the other, a shaft secured to one side of the case and in front of the spools, a pair of guide-rollers mounted On said shaft for guiding the film in rewinding, another shaft fixed to the front of the case, and an intermediate guide-roller supported by -said shaft. f
6. In a motion icture machine, the combination of a carrying case, supply and take-upspools in the case, film-feed mechanism in the case and adapted to operate on the film and pass it from one spool to the other, a shaft secured to one side of the case and in front of the spools, a pair of guide rollers mounted on said shaft for guiding the film in'rewinding, another shaft fixed to the front of the case and extending at substantially a right angle to the first shaft, and an intermediate guide-roller supported by said shaft.
