To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, JOHN OUTHBERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook :ind State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use-' in which the cover plate with its door may be readily removed from or attached to the box body by means accessible only: from the interior of the cabinet.
Another object is the provision of a cabinet having a removable cover plate carrying a rearwardly extending wall section which with the panel board divides the space within the cabinet into two compartments, the outer of which is open to inspection on the opening of the doorin the cover plate, and the inner of which is opened only on the removal of the entire plate.
Another object of my invention is the provision of such a structure in which the Walls of the outwardly opening compartment are adapted for the reception of markers indicating the adjacent circuit conv bodiment illustrated this cover plate'comnections.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a structurally rigid, strong, substantial cabinet so arranged that the wiring of the panel board may be accomplished in amost economical and efficient manner.
Other and further objects will become apparent to those skilled in the art from a consideration of the following description and drawing, wherein:

Fig. 4: is a vertical sectional vie'w on the Referring to the drawings illustrating I a preferred embodiment of my invention, shown for the purpose of clear disclosure, it will be noted that the cabinet comprises in general two sections, one a box shaped receptacle within which is mounted the. panel board and into which lead the conduits for the wiring, and the other comprising a face section or cover plate for the box having in its central portion a hinged door. Inside the edges of the aperture, covered by the door I have provided inwardly extending walls or flanges which contact with the periphery of the panel board forming an outwardly opening box within which the face of the panel board alone is exposed.
Referring tov the drawings in detail, the numeral 10 indicates in general a rectangular box having a back wall 11, vertical side walls 12-12 and top and bottom walls l313. The box is open at its face and has short inturned lips or flanges 14-44 fora purpose to be described. 7
Within the box is mounted a panel board of any desired type, the one illustrated at 15 carrying fuse plugs, connection being made with the back wall 11 in any suitable manner as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. The walls of the box 10 are provided with knock-outs 16 through which the conduits for the wiring system maybe led.
Overlying the front or face of the box 10 is a detachable cover plate indicated in general by the numeral 17. In the specific emprises a rectangular flat plate 18 extending somewhat beyond the walls of the box 10 and having an opening 19 formed in its center portion to receive the flush door 20. I have illustrated the door 20 as being connected with the plate 18 by means of an improved concealed hinge 21 which is fully their corners and adapted to make contact I with the side surfaces of the panel board 15. These walls, together with the panel board 15, which serves as a back for the walls, divide the space within the box into two compartments, the one indicated by the numeral 23 having the panel board as its base, the walls 2222 as its sides and the door 20 as its front, opening to the exterior of the box and exposing to view only the face portion of the panel board. 'The'second compartment 2i surrounds the compartment 23 and is made sufficiently large to receive and contain the wires connected to the panel board. The part 22, of the wall 22, is practically parallel with the door 20 and extends inwardly of the door opening in the cover plate so that when the door is closed it rests against the flat part 22F1g.
' 2. This part 22', therefore, provides a stop or rabbet for the door, preventing it from swinging farther inwardly. and bridging the adjacent edges of the door and the cover plate.
The cover plate 18 is detachably connected to the front edge of the box 10 by means of sliding fin ers or prongs 25 secured'to the rear face of the cover plate 18 by means of screws or rivets 26 projecting through slots 27.v This connection permits an endwise movement of the fingers 25 into or out of engagement with the flanges 14. The inner ends of the fingers 25 extend through openings in the walls 22 and are bent downwardly as at 28 to lie out of the way and parallel with the walls and permit ready operation thereof. Humps 25 are formed 011 the fingers to engage an edge of the slots through which they pass and thus lock the fingers in either extreme position. Near where the downturned parts 28, of the fingers 25, pass into the center compartment 23, the fingers are sprung inwardly and encounter the edge of the wall 22 at the open ings; To move the locking fingers laterally to engage or disengage the flange let, of-the box, it is necessary to press on the ends 28 untilthe humps 25 will pass through the openings. The humps will prevent the fingers from being returned until they are again depressed.
A series of tongues 29 are struck up from the walls 22 and provide pockets for holdboard at the opposite side or in fact any cross connections may be madethat 'ordi narilv would not be permitted in a box of usual type. After the wiring'has all been placed, the cover plate 18 is then placed against the edges of the box 10 flush with the wall and the fingers 25 drivenrhome by a hammer blow on the inturned ends 28. The cover plate is thus securely locked in place and all of the wiring is concealed within the compartment 24', the'c'ompart- WVhereas I have illustrated and described 1 a single embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that various changes might be made in the same without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A cabinet for a panel board comprising an open faced box adapted to receive a panel board; a detachable cover plate adapted to overlie the opening in the box,
said cover plate having a door receiving opening, and wall sections secured to and carried by the cover plate removable therewithandv extending inwardly and rearwardly into substantial contact with the periphery of the panel board, dividing the space within the box into two compartments and inseparable means to bridge the joint between the margin edge of the door and said door opening.
2. A cabinet for a panel board comprising a box member adapted to receive apanel board; a cover plate therefor having a door opening; a door hinged flush with said cover plate a in said opening; rearwardly directed walls secured to and removable with said plate extending inwardly of the door margin to provide a rabbet and extending rearwardly to divide the box into two compartments and to closely surround and partly overlap the panel board.
3. A cabinet for a panel board comprising a box member adapted to receive a panel board and having its walls inturned to provide flanges; a cover plate therefor having a door opening; a door hinged to the plate to cover the opening; walls extending rearwardly from the cover plate to divide the box into'a central compartment and a surrounding compartment and laterally movable bolt fingers extending from the central compartment through the surrounding compartment engaging said flanges to hold the cover plate in place on the box member.
