Description

UNITED STATES BASIL E. WISE, or CANTON, OHIO.
COMPOSITION FOR RAzoR 0R OTHER srRoPs.
To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t known that I, BAsIL E. VVIsE, a c1t1- zen of the United States, residing at Canton,
in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Composition for Razor or other Strops, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful composition to be applied to prepared surfaces such as razor strops or razor stropping devices for the purpose of increasing their efficiency during the honing of razors, safety razor blades or other sharp instruments; and at the same time imparting pliability to the strop.
The objects of the invention are to produce a composition of the character referred to, which may be quickly and easily applied to the surface of a razor strop or the like for the purpose of honing razors, safety razor blades or other sharp edged instruments and at the same time imparting pliability to the strop.
lVith these objects in view the invention consists in the novel proportions and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportions, and minor details of the composition may be made 1 within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
My improved composition consists substantially of a mixture of powdered mineral filler of superior quality such as pulverized corundum and of a superior quality of nonpoisonous coloring matter, such as arnotto or turmeric in either powdered or liquid form.
In preparing the composition I prefer to use the ingredients in about the following proportions 4: ounces of pulverized corundum,
1% ounce coloring matter such as arnotto or turmeric, prepared in 1-} ounces of the finest oil mixed to a proper consist ency ready for immediate use to be used in liquid form.
It will be understood that the amount of coloring matter used may be increased or diminished according to the shade desired.
In preparing the powdered ingredients we use a very fine sifting device to collect any small particles not powdered so that the Specification of Letters Patent.

mixture may be uniform and softened'to an appreciable degree of fineness in order that the compound may be applied to the most delicate sharp edged instruments.
(iood results may also be obtained by preparing the composition in powdered form, four ounces of pulverized corundum and one-half ounce of powdered coloring matter being mixed, the amount of coloring matter being increased or diminished according to the shade desired. This powdered colored mgredient is necessary in accelerating the dusting or sifting process; however when used in this manner it may be necessary to add a few drops of finest oil to the surface of the strop before applying the composition. The added colored ingredient is used as a means of economical. use of the composition as any trace of the composition remaining upon the surface of the strop will be indicated by the shade thereof.
The composition may also be prepared in heavy liquid form'by using the ingredients in about the following proportions 4 ounces of corundum;
, ounce of powdered coloring matter prepared in finest oil; and
5* ounce of petrolatum.
The composition may also be prepared in paste or cream form as follows:
4 ounces of corundum;
lounce of powdered coloring matter; and
2 ounces of petrolatum.
When the powdered or paste form of the composition is used, it may be necessary to add a few drops of finest oil to the surface of the strop before using the composition, then apply a light coat .of the compound, which should be made smooth and even with the palm of the hand.
Finest oil is used as a medium in the composition to reduce the ingredients to a variable consistency and further the petrolatum in the compound is used to reduce the powdered and pulverized ingredients to a cream or paste form.
The composition is not restricted to the exact proportions of the different ingredients as above set forth as these proportions may be more or less varied, as requirements and conditions of the ingredients used may call for a variation in the proportions. This composition will not only serve to constitute an abrading surface of superior quality for honing razors, safety razor blades and the like, but it will also serve to preserve the necessary pliability and suppleness of the strop or other surface tOWlllCll it isapplied.
Although the above specification discloses the best mode in which I have contemplated embodying my invention I desire to be not v limited to the details of such disclosure, for,
in the further practical application of my lnventlon many'chang'es 1n form, constructlon and proport ons may be made as 01rcumstances require or experience suggests, without departing'from the spirit of the in- BASIL E. -WISE.
