RACK AND CORNER BRACKET. APPLICATION FILED FEB. s. 1920.

TO PEERLESS WIRE INDIANA, A CORPORATION OF INDIANA.
RACK AND CORNER BRACKET.
Application filed February 6, 1920. Serial No.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN D. WISE- LCGEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Fayette, in the county of T ippecanoe and State of Indians, have invented a new and useful Rack and Corner Bracket, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple corner bracket for use, in conjunction with angle ironsor similar members, in the formation of storage racks, etc, the construction being such tl at the parts may be readily assembled in such manner that shelves of uniform lengths may be interchangeably placed between the several sets of supports which may be provided.
The accompanying drawings illustrate an embodiment of my invention. Figure l is a perspective of a rack in which eight of my improved brackets are embodied; Fig. 2 a fra mentary horizontal section of Fig. 1, on a plane just above one of said brackets; Fig. 3 a perspective view of one of my improved brackets; and Fig. 4, a perspective view of the parts shown in Fig. 2.
In the drawings C indicates the improved corner piece as a whole, comprising a baseplate 10; a flange ll rising substantially at right angles from plate 10 preferably, though not necessarily at one edge of plate 10; and a flange 12 risin substantially at right angles from plate 10, this flange lying at right angles to flange 11 and not conncc ed therewith so as to have a narrow gap 18 between flange 11 and the adjacent end of flange 12.
The corner piece C is conveniently a casting, preferably of malleable iron so that the slight departure of the inner face of flange 11 from right angles to the upper face of plate 10 may be easily compensated, before assembly, by bending flange 11. Flange 12 may be similarly corrected. The two flanges Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 23, 1920.
ll and 12 being independent, the above described correction may be readily accom plished.
In use, a post 14 of the desired rack, is commercial angle iron, one leg lying in ga l3 and being attached to flange 11 while the other leg lies alongflange 12 and attached thereto.
Angle irons 15 and 16 are then secured in place in the corners between flange 11 and plate 10, and flange l2 and plate 10, as clearly shown in Fig. 4, to form members of a desired. frame. Suitable shelf supports 17 of angle iron are attached to posts 14 and irons 15 are also available to support a bottom shelf.
It will be noted that, by the arrangement shown, the space between opposite irons 15 will be greater than the space between supports 17 by an amount not greater than four times the thickness of an angle-iron leg and, as this is less than the width of one of such legs, it is apparent that a shelf which may be placed between the lower irons 15, will also be retained between any opposite pair of irons 17.
I claim as my invention:
A. unitary corner bracket comprising a base plate 10 having two flanges 11 and 19 erected on one face of the base plate, substantially at right angles to each other and to the plate, one flange overlapping the end of the other and scored therefrom for the reception an on arm. the intermediate portion of the base plate bounded by the being clear for the eption of frame members adjacent the flan W In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand 21.; I: lianopolis, Indiana, this 28th day of Janna one thousand nine hundred and twenty.
CHRISTIAN D. W'ISELOGEL.
