To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RAY Rinne, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sterling, in the county of Logan and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Loading-lilachines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in beet loaders of that class which are used for loading or transferring beets from a pile resting on the ground to a wagon or other receptacle.
The invention is an improvement over that for which ll have been granted Letters- Patent of the United States No. 1,260,059, dated March 19th, 1918.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and eilicient in operation and one which can he manufactured and placed upon the market at a minimum cost. f
rThe invention also 'consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended I claims.
ln describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views7 and in which 2 Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention.

ln these views the frame of the machine is shown as made up of the sides 1 connected together by the cross pieces 2 and the intermediate longitudinally extending pieces 3. As shown the front ends of the sides are of considerable width to provide means for preventing the beets from rolling ofl the sides of the aprons. 4 indicates a large tractor wheel carried by the axle 5 which is obliquely mounted in the intermediate pieces or beams 3. 6 represents the front wheels which are of small diameter and arecarried by the vertically mounted rods 7 ]ournaled in the sides 1 and having their lower ends bent at right angles to provide the axles 8. The upper ends of these rods are also bent at right angles and are connected together by the rod 9. 10 indicates the steering rod connected to one of the rods 7 and provided with the hand operated steering crank 11.
12 indicates the motor which is connect-ed with the wheel el by means of the driving connections 13. 14 indicates a driving shaft connected 'with the motor by means of the shafting 15.
A and B represent the aprons located at the front end of" the device between the sides 1. Each of these aprons comprises a pair of cross bars 16 provided with the upwardly extending standards 17 to which the lifting bars 18 are connected.
As will be understood from an inspection of the drawings and from the before mentioned patent the lifting bars of one apron are alternately arranged with the lifting bars of the other apron and the standards of the cross bars of one apron are arranged in staggered relation with the standards of the cross bars of the other apron.
rThe aprons are'supported in the following manner:
A shaft 19 is journaled in uprights 20 carried by the sides 1 and at each end of said shaft is secured a T-shaped member 21. A rod 22 connects each of the upper arms of the said members with the front bar of each apron so that the said aprons are suspended from the said members by said rods. Said rods are so connected with the members and the cross pieces as to permit rocking movement of said parts. It will thus be seen that when the shaft carrying the lshaped members is rocked the front cross bar of one apron will be raised while the cross bar of the other apron will be lowered so that the pointed ends of the lifting bars of the aprons will be raised and lowered by this action.
. Swinging movement of the rods 22 is prevented by means of the bars 23 forming guides for said rods and having their ends secured to the sides. The rods 22 may be provided with rollers 24 for engaging said bars.
1' The means for rocking the T-shaped 'members comprises a pair of shafts 25 havling their ends connected with the stem of he T-members and extending to the rear of the machine where their ends are promeans of the crank wheels 30 mounted in the rear of the frame and in gear with the gears 3l carried by the shaft lil.' Said crank wheels are connected with side bars 32 which form extensions of the outermost lifting bars of the aprons. The parts are so arranged that the apron will be lifted as it starts to move rearwardly, and said apron will be lowered just as soon as it starts forward and while one apron is moving rearwardly the other is moving forwardly.
33 indicates the elevator having a part thereof extending across the machine at the rear ends of the aprons to receive the beets passing therefrom. rllhe other'portion of the elevator' entends upwardly and ontwardly as shown and described in the before mentioned patent. rlhe elevator is provided with the chains 3d and the cross pieces 35, said chains passing over the wheels 36. The elevator is oriven from the motor by snitable means as shown. The horizontal part of the elevator is provided with the channels .37 in which the chains run. A shield 38 is secured to `one side of the frame and extends around one of the front wheels to prevent the said wheel from ruiming over the beets.
The lifting bars may be of the fish-back construction as described in my before mentioned patent.
Due to the arrangement of the driving wheel the aprons will be moved obliquely to the line of travel of said wheel so as to not injure the beets by the wheels `of the machine. As the machine is driven alongside the pile of beets the forward ends of the lifting barsV will pass beneath the beets and as the bars are lifted and moved rearwardly the beets will be carried along with said bars and will drop o their ends into the elevator.

A loading machine comprising a frame, supporting wheels for the frame, a pair of aprons composed of longitudinally extending lifting bars, means for reciprocatingsaid aprons, a cross bar connected with the front end of each apron, a shaft, a member connected to said shaft, a pair of rods having their upper ends pivotally secured to said-member one on eachV side of its connection with the shaft and the lower ends connected with the cross bars and means for rocking said shaft to raise and lower said aprons.
2. ri loading machine comprising aframe, wheels supporting the same, a pair of aprons comprising longitudinally extending lifting bars and cross pieces connecting said lifting bars together, a transverse shaft supported on the frame, a T-shaped member on each end of said shaft, a pair of roes, each having one end connected with one of the upper arms of the T-shaped member and its lower end with one of the cross pieces of one of the aprons, a shaft connected with the stem of each T-shaped member, a pair of wheels having cam grooves therein for receiving the other ends of the'shafts and .means for rotating said wheels to raise and ln testimony whereof l my signature.
