Description
A. MELETTI.
BOTTLE AND JAR HOLDER. I
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 25, 1919.
1,35 ,970, Patented m. 16, 1920.
IN VENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
ADOLPH MELETTI, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BOTTLE: AND JAR HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, 12220.
Application filed September 26, 1919. Serial No. 326,509.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADOLPH MELETTI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented new and useful Improvements in Bottle and Jar Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to bottles and jars and has for an object to provide a holder therefor, for securing a bottle or a jar against turning when pressure is'imparted to the cover or closure thereof for the purpose of removing the latter.
The invention comprehends among other features a bottle and jar holder which is of a sinroie construction; consists of few parts and insures a firm grip on the bottle or jar so that the latter will be held in a rigid position to permit of imparting a turn or other pressure to the lid, cover or closure of the bottle or jar for the purpose of removing the same.
In the further disclosure of the invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, constituting a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference, denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which,-
Figure 1is a plan view of the device with a jar shown in section in position to be held. by the device.
Fig. 2is a vertical transverse sectional View taken through the structure shown in Fig. 1, the gripping member however being shown in elevation.
Referring more particularly to the views,
I 10 represents a substantially circular body having a series of apertured ears 11 projecting therefrom with screws 12 adapted to pass through the apertures of the means of securing the body 10 to a table 13 or the like. The body 10 includes an upstanding circular flange 14 and disposed therein is a grippingmeniber '15 consisting a coii of spring wire 16, one end of the wire at the inner end of the coil, passing through the flange 141 and formed with a loop 17 secured by a screw 18 and nut 18 to a projecting ear 19 on the body. The other end of the coil of wire 16 is looped to provide a handle 20 extending exteriorly of the body and in radial relation to the flange 1% thereof and the flange is formed with a series of notches 21 adjacent the inner end of the handle 20.
In the use of the device described, the handle 20 hay1ng a portion 22 immediately ad acent its inner end, normally seated in one of the notches 21, is grasped and raised to remove the portion 22 from the notch, after which a turning action imparted to the handle will tend to catch the coil of wire of gripping member 15 so as to permit of the insertlon of a jar or bottle 23 therein.
The action on the handle is now reversed thus causing the convolutions of the coil of wire to contract and grip the periphery of the bottle or jar, thus holding the same rigidly against the top of the bottle and agalnst any turning movement so that the operator can with the other hand, turn or unscrew the top or cover (not shown) from the bottle, the gripping member when,
tightened up, being adapted to be held in 75,
dot and dash line in Fig. 1. By providing i this additional gripping member the device can be used for tightei'iing up the stoppers or caps instead of for releasing same.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. A bottle or jar holder comprising a'95 tubular body, a gripping member disposed in said body and consisting of a coil of wire having its ends extending exteriorly of the body, means for securing the lower end of the coil of wire to the body on the exterior thereof and a handle formed by the upper end of the coil of wire and disposed to lie outside of the vertical-plane of the wall of said body.
2. A bottle or jar holder comprising a tubular body provided with a series of notches in the wall thereof and a gripping member disposed in said body, said gripping member consisting of a coil of wire formed with a series of convolutions with 11c the lower end of the coil of wire secured to 7 said body and the upper end formed to proparts and be- 801 15, the coil whereof is wound 85 i vide a handle extending exteriorly of the body in juxtaposition to the notches in the Wall thereof.
3. A bottle or a jar holder comprising a tubular body provided With a series of notches in the Wall thereof and a pair of gripping members in the said body, each of said gripping members consisting of a coil of Wire formed With a series of convolutions and with one end ofthe coil of Wire secured to the tubular body and the upper end-formed to'pro videa handle extending exteriorly of the body, one of said gripping members being adapted for operation in a clock-Wise direction and the other in a contra-clockwise direction. 7
In testimony whereof 1 aflix my signature.
' ADOLPH MELETTI.
