Be it known that I, ALEXANDER G. M o- GREGOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Warren, in the county of Cochiseand State of Arizona, have invented ordiscovered certain new and useful Improve` ments 1n Automobile-Hoods, of whichl` the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to covers or hoodsfor enveloping the foldedtops of automo# biles orother vehicles and serving'as pro`` tectors to exclude dust orfwateryand'v the invention has for itsobj ect to provide fa hood or cover, of the class referred to, which may be conveniently placed and heldin operative position, and may be readily removed when desired, all as will Vhereinafter more fully appear.

The present invention relates to certain improvements on thev invention covered by my U. S. PatentV No.v 1,215,684, granted February 13,1917.

In the accompanying drawings Figures 1 and 2 are perspective views of two slightly different forms of covers or hoods embodying thepresent'invention. Figs. `3, 4 and 5 areenlarged detail sections taken Aon lines 33, 4-4 and 5 5, respectively', "of Fig. `1.

Fig. 6 isa detail perspective view illustrat-y ing the forward part of the vent or opening in the top piece or upper side of the hood or cover, showing the aps of the said vent or opening in opened positions. Referring to the drawings, 1,-2, 3 and 4 denote the bottom, sides, `backand ytop portions of the cover or hood,xthese portions being of usual flexible and vpreferablywaterproof material and properly secured together so as to be permanently associated and thus forma cover or hood which is practically all in one piece affording a front opening which will enable the cover or hood to be drawn over the folded top of an automobile or other vehicle. The top` portion 4 of the cover or hood is provided with an opening or vent aiforded by separatedfedges which may be made inthe form` of 'overlapping flaps 5 and 6.a These iaps are ypreferably stiifene'd by thm metal bars 7 and 8 which serial No. 258,980.

The continuous tension' strap 10 may bek in4 Fig. 2.A `These buckle connectionswillr en-` able the said strap'to be adjusted inter-f mediate its ends for the purpose of 'giving it a suitable adjustment with reference tol the different parts of the cover or hood. When the ends of thesaid strap aresecured together 'and the strap is made taut the front part of the cover. or hood will be closed tightly around'theV folded vehicle top, so as to com press said folded topfas also to tightly hold the front edge of the .cover'or hood against the same.

The tension orvholding strap 10 will preferably be attached to the stifening bars 7 and 8, near the forward ends ofsaid bars by rivets 11 and 12, and the said strap Will also preferably be attachedto the toppo-rtions'e V of the cover or hood by

To hold the cover or hood in place over a folded vehicle top said cover or hood may be provided near itsvsides at Aits front portion with

23 and 24 which are adaptedto engage some suitable stationary parts, as shown inFig. 1. Y

Instead of providing the hood .vith holdings straps, as 23 and 24, Vjust referred to, saidhood or cover may be provided with bow covers 25 and 26, as shownin Fig. 2, these covers eachconsistingof'trvo separable parts or flapsfadapted tol be removably se cured together along their edges, as by being provided with snap fasteners 27- or the like. rFliese bow covers will preferably be provided at their front` portions with -attaching straps 28 to be secured to anysuitable stationary parts on the vehicle.

In the construction shown in Fig. 8 the straps 23 and 24shoivn in Fig..1 and the boiv'coversshoWn'inFi g1 2 are omitted,and iuthis modified form the tension strap 10 will be relied'upon to. retain the cover or hood in place onza folded'vehicle top.

Instead of securing the ends ofthe ten# sion4 strap lOtogether by the means shown in Fig. Gtheimeans shoivnvinFig. 9 may be employed; In` this securingv construction, which is 'considered preferable, a metal loop or' ring 29 is suitably connected With one end of' said strap atone of the separated edges of the vent inthe top'portionc of the hood, and a perforatedstrap 30, adapted to be drawn through said loop or4 ring; isfconneetedivith theother end of said strap'y at the other separated edgeA of said vent,fsaid strap 80 being secured bya1buckle-21iL also connected with! saidnstrap.
