This invention relates to devices for attaching closures to vbottles of the class in which an annular expansible throat-forming series of closure attaching segments, into which the bottle head with the superimposed closure is forced, is embraced by a'yielding resistance means-such as vention contemplates va novel device of this class in which all parts of the resistance means yield together or as one when the bots tle head is forced into the'throat inthe act of afxinga closure, instead of successively,v

By this means the parts comprising the device, to wit, the segments and rings, will be interlocked with each other. The rings, as shown, pret erably each have greater width than thickness.
So far as l am aware it is new in this art to utilize substantially concentric spring rings as the resistance means and this has the advantage over a single ring ot the same thickness of greater susceptibility to yield. therefore claim such substantially concentric spring rings broadly, .e., without reference to whether or not the form of said means and its relation to the segments is such as to prevent or substantially prevent their tilting. y
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. The combination of an annular expansible throatforming series of segments and means to apply, to portions of said series in planes remote from each other and transverse of the axis of the series, yielding resistance to the expansion of such series including a spring ring embracing said series andcut by both said planes and being rigid from one such plane to the other.
2. The combination of an annular eXpan sible throat-forming series of segments and means to oppose yielding resistance to the expansion of said series including substantially concentric. spring rings.
3. The combination of an annular expansible throat-forming series of segments and means to apply, to portions of said series in panes remote from each other and transverse of the axis of the series, yielding resistance to the expansion of such series including a spring ring embracing said series and cut by both said planes and being rigid from one such plane to the other, and another spring ring substantially concentric with and embracing the first ring.
4:. The combination of an annular eXpansible throat-forming series of segments and means to apply, to portions of said series in planes remote from each other and transverse or the axis of the series, yielding resistance to the expansion of such series including `a spring ring having greater width than thickness and embracing said series and cut by both said planes and being rigid from one such plane to the other, said ring having an annular crimp formed therein.
5. The combination or' an annular eXpansible throat-forming series of segments and means to oppose yielding resistance to the expansion of said series including laminated concentric spring rings interlocked with each other against slippage relatively to each other in one direction.
