To all whom t may concern: Be it known that I, GUY S. DYER, a zen of the United States, residing at Layton, in the county 'of Davis and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Im# provements in Leaching-l/Iachines, of which The present invention relates to improve ments in leaching or diffusing apparatus.
One object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of this characterinwhich the process of diffusion or leaching will be continuous and in which there will be avoided the necessity of devoting. particular care to avoid cutting the material into portions some of which would be so small as to pack, and, consequently, prevent free circulation of the liquid therethrough.

I have 4devised my improved apparatus specifically for the purpose of extracting sugar from beets, cane, grapes, and other saccharine bearing material and I will, therefore, describe it with reference thereto. It is to be understood, however, that it can be applied to any material containing substances which it is desired to leach, as, for instance, oil from grape seeds, tannic acid from grape residues, etc.
The material is fed through an opening 1 into one end of a cylindrical chamber 2, which can rotate by means of circular rails 3 therearound, traveling upon flanged rollers 4, mounted in suitable bearings 5, said body is caused to so rotate by means of a gear ring 6 formed therearound, engaged by a pinion 7 of a shaft 8 rotating in bearings 9, and driven by any suitable source of power, not here shown. Said cylindrical chamber is divided intocompartments 11, five of which are here shown, although in practice, I generally use more, as seven or eight. These compartments are formed by annular plane transverse partitions 12, the outer edge of each partition being connected in any suitable manner with the cylindrical body 2.l Extending in front of each partition are two diametrically opposite shifter plates 13, whichare perforated and extend at an angle to the partition, so that the front edges of said plates, having 4regard to the direction in which the cylinder rotates, are closely adjacent to said partition, while the citiy rear edges are at a considerable distance therefrom. While theV material is thus being passed through the 'several partitions from one end of the cylinder to the other, hot water is also fed into the cylinder by a pipe 18, controlled by a valve 19, the pipe 18 extending only into -a terminal washing `chamber 21 convnected with the discharged end of the cylinder and co-axial therewith, from which washing chamber 21 it Hows into the cylin der, ,flowing through the openings in the partitions as the level of the water rises to and above said openings, and iinallyflowing out through the feed opening 1 at the feed` pipes extending through holes 26 in the inclosing tube 23. rThe tube or'casing 23 may be supported by any suitable means.
