To all whom t may concern: y
Be it. known that l., WILLIAM Emma citizen. of the UntedfStates,` residing at Pittsburgh, in the oounty of Allegheny'and State of Pennsy1vania,have invented new Vand useful lmprovements in Crushing-'Maohines, of which the following ifs, a full, clear, concise, and' exact description, reference being had'to the accompanying; drowin e., forming part oi thieepeoiication- 'y invention pertaine to .crushing Inachinee, and relates eepeclallytofmachinee which the [material to be .crushed is'eupplied to a rotatingreeeiver in wich'it 4is acted upon by a plurality of spheres, rolle,
or the like,
. I ie. an obieot of my invention to provide a crushing; machine in which the crueliirno action will' take place evenly and effectively. It is another object of my invention tofprcdune a crushing machine having provieion for reducing anyover-large material which may .bef present after' the main crushing operation has. teken plane. It another .object ofniy'invention to .provide a crushingr machine whieh will. deliver the crushed product in a. Suiiioiently divided form, which will be rapidin operation., and which Vwill he of. simple and rugged eonetruction. auxiliary rolls, thereby permitting such material to b e crushed by said rolls and fall beneath the latter. Each of these chute plates is formed of sheet metal bent to the proper downwardly-inclined shape, so as to form an angular part 45a which closes the inner part of the angle formed by the adjacent radial arms 29a of the hood member, two shelf parts 45h, which terminate substantially at the'ends of the rollers 40, 41, and a pair of lip portions 45c which enter theupper part or' the space The machine is provided withv an inlet chute 46, through which the material is delivered to the delector portion 16 oi' the receiveryand a fan or the like is provided for delivering an air blast through a pipe 47 beneath the machine, an air suction device carrying the crushed product'away to aV suitable receptacle. Casing members 48 andV 49k are 'provided for inclosing the various parts described above.
In the operation of the machine, the material to be crushedis suitably fed to the chute 46, through which it falls'onto the delector portion 16, being thereby distributed into Ythe channel portion 17 of the receiver.
VIn this channel portion, the material is crushed, during rotation, beneath the spheres 35, which latter are pressed down upon lthe material by the actions of the springs 33. The crushed material is forced out through the space between'the disk 19 and the corresponding oppositely rotating member ,38. Upon being thus' forced out, it is operated upon by the blast of air vcoming through the `apertures 24 from the pipe 47 This blast air carries the crushed materiallupward Any particles of material which may not have been sufficiently crushed will fall upon the chute plates 45,v and be thereby deliveredto the auxiliary rolls 41, 42, by whichV rollslthese particles will be further broken up, and will of theV materialdelivered to it.
be thereafter of air.
It will be observed that the machine described above is of an exceedingly simple andruggedy construction, and that it provides for av complete t and thorough crushing I do not intend to limit myselfto the particular form of machine described and shown, as it is but one ofv several forms inv which my invention carriedupward by the current may be embodied, what I claim as'new, and
desire'to secure by Letters APatent being:
' 1. A crushingmachine comprising a rotaryV member having anv annular trackway therein for receivingffthematerial tofbe crushed, a'crushng device roperating in said trackway, a second rotary member disposed above said first member co-axially therewith and having a` portion coperating with a portion of said first member so as to grind the material between the members after the sameA has been crushed by said device, and means for rotating said members in opposite directions.
2. A crushing machine comprising a ro- 'tary member having an annular trackway 3. A crushing machine comprisinga rotary member having an annular trackway therein for receiving the material to be crushed, a plurality of crushing spheresoperating in said trackway, means for exerting pressure on said spheres, a second rotary member disposed above said ,first-named member and having a portion coperating with a portion of said first member so as to grind theV material between the members after the same has been crushed by said spheres, and means for rotatingthe members in oppositevdirections.
4. A crushing machine comprising a rotary member having an annular trackway therein for receiving the .material to be crushed, and having av downwardly inclined conical grinding portion extending outward from said trackway, a second member rotatably mounted above said first member and having a conical grinding portion coperatingwith the grinding portion of said firstV member, means for exerting pressureon said second member, and means'for rotating said members in 'opposite directions.
A5. A crushing machine havingan annular traclrway therein for receiving the material to be crushed, and having a downwardly inclined conical grinding portion extending outwardfrom said trackway, a second member rotatably mounted'above said first mem- Y ber and having a conical grinding portion cooperating with saidlirst-named grinding portion, a crushing device operating in said 4.traclm1ay, means for exerting pressure. on
portion, means for exerting pressure'on said second member, a plurality of spheres operating in said trackway, means for exert* ing pressure on said spheres, and means, for rotating said members in opposite directions.
7. A crushing machine comprising a rotary member having an annular trackway therein for receiving the material to be crushed, and having a downwardly inclined conical grinding portion extending outward from said trackway, a second member rotatably mounted above said first member and having a conical grinding portion coperating with the grinding portion of said rst member, means for exertin pressure on said second member, a crushlng device operating in said trackway, ing said members in 'opposite directions, a hood for connection with an exhaust means,
means for rotatand supplementary means for crushing any particles falling back from said hood.
8. A crushing machine comprising a pair of superposed grinding members mounted to rotate oneupon the other, a casing surrounding said grinding members so as to provide a chamber, for the ground particles, a hood above said grinding members for connection with anV exhaust means, and supplementary means for crushin any particles falling back from said hoo and returning them to said chamber.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence Vof 'two i.
