the precise embodiment of the invention UNITED I WILL n. I ISEMAIT, or
DETROIT," MICHIGAN;
EGG-GANDLER.
troit, inthe county of Wayne and State of Michlgan, have invented a new and useful Egg-Candler, of which the following .is a specification.
The device formingthe subject matter "of this application 'is adapted. to be employed for, examining eggs, and one object of the inventionis to supply a structure of the kind above mentioned, in whicha relatively vlarge Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for constructingthebase portion of the candler, so ,as to prevent, a buckling or distortion'of the reflector.
A further obj ect of the invention is to provide a candler in which the top maybe made at trifling expense, the. top being, so constructed that a full view of all of the eggs to be candled may be obtained.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally andto enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
With the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in front elevation, a device constructed in accordance with the invention, parts being broken away; Fig. 2'is a'section on'the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2;
The device forming the subject matter of this application includes a box-like base, denoted generally by thenumeral 1, and including a frame 2 within which a bottom 8 is held. Disposed below the bottom 3 isa false bottom 4, preferably made of metal, the bottom 4 having an upstanding flange bound between the margin of the bottom 3 and the frame 2. Located within the frame 2 and supported on the bottom 3 is a boxlike reflector 6, which, preferably, is made of metal. The relatively thick bottom 3 forms a strong support for the reflector 6 and prevents the distortion thereof. The false bot- Specification of Letter s raten'ts" Paten-ted'iSeptr'i ,1920. ;,'1919. results inthe production: of, a candler includinga .reflector'fwhich s so supported and re.-
,inforced that'the reflecting surfacewill remain unaltered, theefliciencyof the deyice being thereby promoted; j The reflector 6 .may be secured tothe-frame'2 by means of attaching elements 7 I I Sockets 8 are fcarried byfthe upstanding a circuit :10 I including a push. button} 11 and any time,by means time push button 11 so asto cause the lamps 9to furnish thefnecessary illumination. Since the lamp circuit wall {of the box-like 'reflect0r16,and ,are I adapted to receive electric lamps 9 located in 10 normally is open, there is a minimum waste of current in operation.
T he frame 2 is cut away at its upper edge to form a shoulder 28, on which rests a platform 29, made of any suitable. material, such .as tin, the platform having any desired number of openings 30 wherein the eggs to be candled are seated. The platform is supplied with a relatively large number of openings, so that many eggs may be candled at once, if desired. I I
The candler includes atop, denoted by the numeral 16, the top comprislng afram'e 17 united by hinges 18 with the frame por- V tion 2 of the box-like frame 1. The lower end of a casing is disposed within'the frame 17-, and this casing'is a composite structure. Thecasing includes a straight upright front wall 19, having rearwardly extended flanges 20. The casing. comprises, further, a forwardlyinclined back 21'having sides 22 received between the flanges 20 of the front wall 19, the sides 19 of the back 21 and the flanges 2O ofthe front wall 19 being united by securing members of. any desired con struction. The lower end of the casing, constructed as above set forth,'extends within the frame 17, and is fastened thereto by se-' curing elements 2 1. The upper end of the casing is smaller than the lower end thereoff, since the back 21 slants forwardly toward the front wall 19, and, seated upon vthe upper end of the casing, is an eye plate 25 having peep holes 26, the eye plate ineluding a flange 27 extended downwardly within the upper end ofthe casingand-se cured thereto in any desired Way.
