Description

G. H. SMITH.
CURTAIN SUPPORT. APPLICATION FILED MAY15,1920. 1,350,846, Patented Aug..24, 1920.
Fig.6.
I INVENTOR. @9 25M %fiwa ATTORNEY Mg]; R
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. SMITH, 0F PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR T0 CHARLES D. KENNEY, OF CRANSTON, RHODE ISLAND.
Application filed May 15, 1920.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Gnome H. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Supports, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to non tubular curtain rods or plates and to the brackets therefor.
The essential objects of my invention are strength, snugness of fit between the brackets and the supported member or members, and inexpensiveness of construction.
My invention consists in the means for producing the results above specified substantially as hereinafter claimed.
In the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my curtain support showing the center of the support section or sections broken away,
Figs, 2 and 8, sections on lines 22 and 33 respectively of Fig. l, and
Fig. a, a front elevation of a bracket.
Like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the views.
In the drawings 7 represents the section or sections of a single or of a telescoping curtain support. In detail the member '7 consists of an oblong plate of thin metal having a body 8 comprising a broad central longitudinal channel 10 and narrow parallel channels 11 spaced from each side of the central channel. There are also lateral inturned resilient flanges 13 upon the body.
Each of the two brackets is also cut and formed from a strip of thin material forming an oblong base 15 with end perforations 16 for the reception of attaching screws 17. Integral with the edge of the base or attaching section is a flat arm 19 provided in each lateral margin with a projection or stud 20. Centrally the arm 19 has the ma terial cut away forming an opening 22 and oppositely directed, transversely disposed outwardly inclined lugs 23, integral with the body at the edge of the opening. The lugs are therefore resilient.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 24, 1920.
Serial No. 381,663.
Each arm 19 is slidable snugly relatively to its section 7, the studs 20 registering in the channels 11, and the lugs 28 pressing against the body and extending into the channel 10. The flanges 13 resiliently embrace the lateral edges of the arm.
It will be noted that the form, location, and resilient character of the parts contribute to insure a snug slidable interengagement of the elements, and that the structure is inexpensive and strong.
I claim 1. An article of the class described comprising a supporting plate provided with resilient lateral flanges, and a bracket there for including a flat arm bearing against the plate and embraced by the flanges.
. 2. An article of the class described comprising a supporting plate provided with longitudinal channels and with lateral flanges, and a bracket therefor including a flat arm embraced by the flanges, and studs registerable in the channels.
3. An article of the class described comprising a supporting plate provided with a longitudinal channel, and with lateral flanges, and a bracket therefor including a flat arm embraced by the flanges, and transversely disposed inclined lugs formed in the arm and registering in the channel.
a. An article of the class described comprising a supporting plate provided with a central longitudinal channel, channels parallel with the first channel, lateral flanges on the plate, and a bracket therefor including an arm engaging the flanges provided with studs seated in the second mentioned channels, and inclined resilient lugs formed on the arm registering in the longitudinal channel.
5. A bracket comprising a base, a flat arm integral with an edge of the base, marginal studs on the arm, and resilient inclined fingers integral with an intermediate portion of the arm.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
GEORGE H. SMITH.
