Description
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
CURTIS HINMAN, OF AKRON, OHIO, ASSIGNOB TO HIMSELF AND ROSWELL WILLETTS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN ANlMAL-POKES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,988, dated January 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CURTIS HINMAN, of Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Animal-Pokes, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to simplify the construction of animal-pokes, and also to make a more durable poke. My invention consists, mainly in two castings of peculiar and novel construction, and in the combination of these with other devices.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a view of the under side of my improved poke. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same. Fig. 3 is a rear view of the barbs and springs.
In the construction of my improved animalpoke, I make the principal casting D, provided with the cross-bar F, the three projections E, E, and N, and the guide-rods L, all cast in one piece. This casting also has holes S for the entrance and passage of the points of the barbs Iin the usual manner. It requires no fitting up to receive the bow or yoke A and the spear H, which latter is fastened by a single bolt, G, in
connection with a notch in the end of the spear to fit the cross-bar F. A second small casting, K, is molded, with the barbs I, all in the same piece. This casting has holes to receive the guide-rods L, upon which the casting freely slides down to the shoulders I, Fig. 3. In putting these two castings together the coiled springs M are first put upon the two outer barbs I, and then the castings are put together and'fastened by means of a small nut or washer, P, which is riveted in place upon the ends of the guide-rods L.
purposes set forth.
CURTIS HINMAN.
