Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES J. EAMES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO KIDDE R, WETHERELL 8t 00., OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN MEDICATED PAPER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,983, dated January .21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES J. EAMES, of New York, in the county of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Medicated Paper; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description thereof.
The nature of my invention consists in an improvement in medicated paper for watercloset use by incorporating with the pulpof which the paper is made, or saturating the pa per in, a solution of cresylic or carbolic acid, as will be herein more fully described.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and to prepare my medicated paper I will now describe its manufacture and preparation.
When the pulp is prepared in the ordinary manner, and before it is put into the machine to be converted into sheet paper, I put in with every ten pounds of pulp so prepared about one ounce of pure carbolic or cresylie acid, the crystals of the acid being previously dissolved by submitting them to a suitable temperature for that purpose. The pulp thus prepared is then passed through the usual process in making sheet paper, and cut to the desired size or sizes.
In preparing the paper commonly used--a kind of tissue paper-I take the sheets when of full size and immerse them in a solution of carbolic orforesylic acid, prepared in the following manner: I dissolve about one ounce of pure cresylic or carbolic'acid in about one gallon of distilled or rain-water, and apply as above indicated.
The paper may be sprinkled or wetted with the solution in any suitable manner, and when dried is ready to be cut into any required size ready for use.
The medicated paper thus prepared is, because of the employment of the acids used, peculiarly adapted to the purposes for which it is intended.
Having thus fully described my invention, whatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is. p
A medicated paper prepared substantially in the manner herein described.
CHARLES J. EAMES.
