`eitizen ot' the United States. residing at Mound Valley, in the county of Labette and State of Kansas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Tire and 'lube \"uleanizers, ot' whieh the following is a speeilieation,
My invention relates t0 improvements in tire and tube vuleanizers.
The objet-t of my invention is to provide a vuleanizer ot the kind deseribed whieh is simple in eonstruetion, eheap to mannt'aeture, not liable to get ont of order. durable and ellieient in operation. and whieh may be, readily operated by an inexperienced per- A further object of my invention is to provide a vuleanizer having means tor regulating the heating. as the circumstances may reipiire. and whieli will not expose the material whieh is being vuleanized to direet eontaet with the steam employed i'or the heating.
A furtherobjeet ot' my invention is to provide a tire vulea'nizer and tnbe vulranizer, with joint heating means arranged so that tbe vnleanizers: may be used eonjointlvv or one at; a time.
My invention provides l'urther novel heating means in the vuleanizer by whieh a uni form temperature may be obtained and economy in t'uel combustion.
The novel features ot my invention are hereinafter fully deseribed and eluimed.
ln the aeeonumnviug drawing. whieh illnatratesy the preferred embodiment ol' nrv invention,
Figure l is a eentral vertieal aeetional view ot' my improved vnleani/.er, the rover being `s'hown eloaed.
Fig. 2 is a top view of the same. partly broken away` oner ot the eonneeting tubesl whieli lill the air' bags with steam being shown extended to the exterior ol' the. vnlcanizer.

'|`he bottom ol' the easing l is supportedby a vlimlrilfat easing l. having an interior `heatingr ehamber l5.
asbestos lining 5, and which ineloses a boiler G, exteriorly lined with asbestos 7 and having extending centrally vertically therethrough a passage 8 in which is located a downwardly converging detleetor 9, spared apart from the boiler (l.
The boiler 6 is supported by legs 11 and has loeated below it a suitable burner. sneh as a gas burner 12, which is supplied b v means ot a snpplyfpipe 13 provided with a regulating valve 14 The produets of combustion and heated air trom the burner l2 pasa upwardly through the passage 9 into a eireular ehaniber l5 above the boiler (i, the top ol whieh chamber is the bottom ot the easing 1. smoke pipe 1G is eonneeted to the ehamber 15.
For heating the tire vnleanixing ehamber. there i5 provided in the easing l a pipe eoil 17; whieh is loeated vertieallv elosely adjaeent to the inner 'all ot the easing and which has one end eonneeted bv a pipe lS with the boiler t3. adjaeent to the upper end thereof. and its; other eml eonneet'ed by a pipe ll) with the boiler l' adiznent to the lower end thereof.
Steam trom the boiler l; pangea upwardl \r through the pipe 1S. thenre throngll the roil li'. the rondenh'ed yteam passing bark to the boiler by the. pipe lli.
.\n adjustable pop valve "20 is eonneeted b'v a pipe Zl to the pipe 1S'. Thi pop-valve ma)Y be of :in v ordinariv type whieli ran be adinsted to blow oil at dillerent pressures. liv properli1 regulating the popaill' valie QL the preti-.sore in the boiler and eoil li maiV be adineted to snit the required ronditions as to presaure and as to temperature in the raising l. The lop ot' the easing l may be provided with a tinrnloim-ter 1&2. by whieh the interior temperature of the tirey ehainber nlalv be aaiertained, i
ln the tire chamber is mounted `a remov able pel't'oiate basket 131. prel'erzdil-vy baring a bail Qt. tbe basket being adapted to eon tain the tirear whit-li are to be vntraniwd. lrelerablv the basket Eil resta' upon a bed ot'V aand, 25 disposed npon `the upper side ot' the bottom ol` the eaaing l. lrel'erablv the :wbeotos lining It on the bottom ot" the -:Ising l doea` not extend aeross that portion 0l' the bottoni whit-h ia direetllv above the liv this arrangement` the lit-.tt from the ebamber l5 is readily eonllt) ducted throu h the bottom of the casing 1 to the sand ed 25, thereby assisting the steam coil 17 and retainingr an even temperature in the tire heating chamber.
Connected to the top of the coil 17 are a plurality of connecting pipes 2G, having with the usual air bags, which are commonly employed to infiate tubes which are to be vulcanized. Each tube 26 is provided with a shutoff valve 27, which is closed when the tube ismot in use.
For vulcanizingr inner tubes, I provide a rectangular flat hollow box 28 of the ordinary type havinor at one end a steam discharge cock 29, fig. 2. The' box 28 is supported by a pipe 3U, Fig. 1, which extends through the side Wall of the casin 1 and is connected to the steam pipe 18. he pipe 30 also serves to supply steam to the interior of the closed box 28.
In the pipe 18 above the pipe 30 is a shutofi' valve 3l, the handle of which extends through the side wall of the casing 1 so as to be accessible from the exterior of the casing. ihen the Steam box 28 is to be used, the valve 29 is opened and the valve 31 closed or partly closed, according to whether or not the tire chamber is to be used simultaneously with the use of the steam box 28. no tires are to be cooked, the valve 31 is fully closed.
tires are to be cooked simultaneousl with the use of the steam box 28 for v u canizing tubes, the valve 31 may be opened sufficiently to permit of the deslred How of steam through the coil 17, such regulation of the valve 31 being dependent, of course,
valve 33.
In the operation of my invention, when it iS desired to cook tires, the latter are pro` placed in the basket 23. pipes 26 are then respectively connected with the air bags, not shown, after which the valves 27 are opened.
The tire cooking chamber will be heated b the steam coil 17 and the sand bed 25. The steam from the-coil 17 will distend and heat the air bags in the tires by means of the connecting pipes 26. Wjien the tires have been vulcanized, the cover 2 is swung to the open position, the tubes 26idisconnected from the air bags, after which the basket 23 with the vulcanized tires therein may be lifted by means of the bail 24 out o1' e tire cookin chamber.
When it is esired to vulcanize tubes on the box 28, the valve 31 may be closed and the valve 29 opened, upon which steam from the pipes 18 and 30 entering the box 28 will eat the latter sufiiciently for vulcanizing of the tubes which are mounted on the box 28 in the usual *mannen A water gage 34 of the ordinary type may be disposed at the exterior of the casing 4 and connected to the boiler 6 in the ordinary manner.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as many modifica tions, within the scope of the appended may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention. so
