IMPROVEMENT IN LUBRlCATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. lllilll, dated January 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN McLURE POWER, of Port Discovery, in the county of Jefferson and Territory of Vashington, have invented a new and useful Improvement in `Lubricators, of which the following is a specication:
This invention relates to the construction ot' lubricators for steam-engines; and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described.
The drawing represents a vertical section of my improved lubricator.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the neck oi' the lubricator, which is screwed into the cylinder-head, or other part. Bis the reservoir. O is the oil-receiver. D is a pipe, which is connected with the branch E from the neck A, and with the condenser F, through which steam is admitted from the cylinder. This pipe enters the condenser and is closed at its end. It has a short vertical branch-pipe, f, screwed into it. Gis a valvespindle attached near the bottom of the reser voir, for drawing oitl the surplus water of con- H is a spindle-valve in the cup or receiver C, by which the flow of oil is controlled, and the condensingsurt'ace increased or diminished. This spindle may be made hollow for the purpose of presenting` an increased condensing-surface when required. I
is a solid plug, made of any non-conducting material, which closes the top ofthe neck-tube A. Steam will pass up through the branch E and pipe D from the cylinder into the condenser, which steam will be condensed in whole or in part, and the water ot' condensa tion will fall by its own gravity into the reser voir B. The water, being of greater specific gravity than the oil, will settle at the bottom ot' the reservoir, and when it accumulates in too great quantity it is drawn off through the valve G. The lubricating-oil Hows over into the pipe D, and reaches the cylinder by virtue of its own gravity. The flow of steam upward as well as of oil, may be shut off by means of the valve-spindle J. All the valvespindles are arran ged so that they can be reground in their seats, and are provided with screw-caps K, and hand-rims L, the former for supporting and inclosing and the latter for turning them.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A lubricator having a neck, A, rescrvoirB, oil-chamber C, condenser F and spindle H, cock Gr, branch E, pipe D, valve-spindle J, and plug I, when the same are arranged substanti-allyY as and for the purposes described.
JOHN MCLURE POWER.
