In Me 27/0 7' Frvdbacbi/a fi/forney PATENT OFFICE.
FRED IBAGHILA, or MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
CIRCUIT-CLOSER FOR LETTER-BOXES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 29, 1920.
Application filed August 14, 1919. Serial No. 317,433.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Finn) BACHILA, machinist, a Russian subject, residing at 1114 Demontigny street, in the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Circuit-Closers for Letter-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact de scription of the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in letter boxes and the main object of this invention is to provide a device of this character that will signal or ring a bell when a-letter is thrown inside and thus inform the residents in apartment houses that they have received their mail.
To better understand this invention reference should be had to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1, is a front elevation of a series of letter boxes as usually installed in apartment houses.
Fig. 2, is a vertical sectional view of the invention illustrating the electrical contacting device.
Fig. 3, is an enlarged perspective view of the invention illustrating more clearly the electrical contacting device for a bell or any suitable signal.
Like numerals of reference indicate cor responding parts in each figure.
In the drawings 1, represents a casing provided with a hinged door 2 having a slot or rectangular opening 3 at its upper end. Provided over and adapted to close said opening 3 is a plate 4 mounted on the spring hinges 5.
Above said opening 3 adjacent one end thereof on the door 2 is rigidly secured a contacting member 6 whichprojects downwardly over said plate 4: to one end of which is connected the electric wire 7. Said member 6 is made to contact with the -U shape member 8 which is rigidly secured to the plate 4, when said plate is swung open the drawings.
It will readily be seen that when a letter is pushed through the opening 3, the plate which closes said opening, is pushed in-' wardly, thus causing the U shape member 8 to contact with the member 6 and form a circuit which will ring a bell or any suit-- able signal.
On the inner side of the door and secured thereto is provided a letter box 10 in which the mail matter will drop.
,What I claimas my invention is:
A circuit closer for letter-boxes, comprising a casing having an opening therein; a hinged door provided over the opening of said casing; a letter-box secured on the nearer side of said door; a letter. opening provided in said door; a hinged closing plate provided over said opening; a U-shaped contacting member electrically connected and secured to said plate; a downwardly projecting electrically connected and contacting member secured adjacent said plate, said member being adapted to project slightly outwardly from said plate whereby when mail-matter is pushed through said opening, the closing plate will be opened and the contacting U-shapedmenr ber, 011 said plate, will be made to contact with the downwardly projecting contacting member and cause an electrical circuit which will give a signal, substantially as described.
Signed at Montreal, Canada, this 17th day of July, 1919.
FRED BAGHILA.
