the aforesaid new and useful geometric fig' ure which is to be hereinafter described, and moreparticularly, at thepresent time, to the use of the boundary lines-of thesaid geometric figure for plotting and delineati'nga pattern fora covering for balls and spherical bodies. v

Among various other useful and artistic objects of my invention,I aim tdprovide coverings for balls, and the me'thodsfor producing-the patterns for the same, saidcoveri-ngs being so formed and d sposed as to re quire a nnnnnum length of closure, thus lesseningthe amount of sewing"necessary for the complete closure of coverings over balls and the like.

' Further objects andadvantages of my invention will be better "understood romthe following description thereof, in which ref crence is made to the drawings "forming a part of this specification, and wherein- Flgure 1 shows an outline ofthesaid geometric figure, together with such subsidiary lines and marks as are useful in outlining the same, which outline indicates among other things, the pattern for the coverings for balls and spherical bodies.

Fig. 2 shows the covering as applied to a ballfthe pattern having been laid on the reverse side of thematerial, in cutting the covering.

Reference is now made to Fig. 1. Starting with a straight line, 1, a second straight line, 2, perpendicular to the said line, 1, is made to intersect the said line, 1, as for instance at the point 3.

\Vith a pair of compasses opened to span the necessary distance, as for instance, sub-. stantially to the extent of one third of the length of the diameter of the spherical body to be covered, one point of the said compasses may be and is placed on the intersection of the lines, 1 and 2, at 3, and the circumference 4 is made.

With, the points of the compasses separated to a distance corresponding to one radius of the circle inclosed by the circumference 4, one point of the same is placed at 3' andthe circumference l is drawn.

Using the intersecting points at 12 and 7, a straight line is indicated between the two points, and extended .to intersect the semicircumference 10 at 13.

Similarly using the intersecting points at 12 and 7, a straight line may be, and is indicated between the saict points, and extended to intersect the semi-circumference 10' at 13'. g

The geometric figure referred to in the subject of this application and in various paragraphs in the specification is indicated and inclosed by the lines which include the points 7, let, 13, 10, 8, 6', 7", 14, 13, 10, 8, and 6, and maybe and is cut out .alQng said lines and through the said points, thus among other possible uses, forming a pattern for a covering for a ball or other spherical body.

Reference is now made to Fig. 2. In adapting the coveringwhich may be and is cut by the pattern as indicated in the foregoing, to a ball or the like, the edges are perforated at intervals, substantially as shown, and are joined, beginning at the point 7 .or 7 and continuing until the similar opposite point is reached,?0r the joining may begin at both points, 7 and 7, allowing the final closure to take place at other points in the outlineof the pattern or edge of the covering, as for instance, at

points

10 and 10.

To insure accurate and easy closure of the covering as shown and described, over a ball or the like, holes at intervals are preferably provided for stitches, substantially as shown in the drawings which form parts of this specification.

I claim 1. A blank including an intermediate portion having straight parallel edges, and including oppositely disposed end portions having curved edges, the edge of each end being formed on the arcs of circles of different diameters, the said end portions being symmetrical with respect to each other.

2. A blank including symmetrical end portions the edges of which are formed on the arcs of relatively large and relatively small circles, and an intermediate portion having straight edges, each of which is tangent to one end of the edge of one end portion and forms an angle with, the opposite end of the edge of the opposite end portion.

3. A covering blank for base-balls, comprising an intermediate portion, and reversely disposed end portions having curved edges formed on the arcs of circles of different diameters.

4. A covering blank for base-balls, comprising a single length of material having curved end portions, and an intermediate portion disposed at an angle with respect to a vertical line which intersects the curved portions at corresponding ,points.
