ROBERT E. STANLEY, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
PAPER-HANGEBS CUTTING-BOARD Application filed December 23, 1919.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ronnn'r l3. STANLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Paper- Hangers Cutting-Boards, of which the followingis a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in paper-hangers cutting boards.
The object of my invention is to provide a novel cutting board for cutting paper, and adapted particularly for use in cutting wall paper, which is simple, cheap to manufacture, durable, not liable to get out of repair, which is convenient to transport and to use, and with which wall paper may be quickly and accurately cut to the desired sizes.
The novel features of my invention are hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved cutting board.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view, enlarged, of a portion of the same. v
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmental cross section of the same.
Similar reference characters designate similar parts in the different views.
1 designates a base member which is preferably a flat board having in one side a longitudinal groove Secured to the grooved side of the base member 1 is a plate 3, of any suitable material, such as brass, steel, or galvanized iron, and which, preferably extends from one longitudinal edge of the base member to the groove The plate 3 is preferably provided with suitable graduations 4:.
Rotatably mounted on the plate 3 are a plurality of gage members 5, which are disposed all at one side of the groove 2, each member having an upwardly extending gage pin 6.
In the groove 2 is mounted a longitudinal channel or U-shaped bearing member 7, upon the bottom of which is mounted a supporting member 8 having its longitudinal edges spaced apart from the sides of the member 7. Mounted on the supporting member 8 is a cutting plate 9, which is transversely adjustable relatively to the groove 2 and which is preferably made so adjustable with the provision of transverse slots 10, through which extend securing screws 11, by

which the plate 9 is retained in its adjusted position.
The longitudinal edges of the cutting plate 9 are respectively adjacent to but spaced apart from the sides of the U-shaped member '7, thereby providing two channels 12 in which may run an ordinary paper-cut-- ting wheel, not shown, the cutting edge of which is adapted to be supported upon the top of the bottom portion of the bearing member 7.
The longitudinal edges of the cutting plate 9 are employed in conjunction with the cutting wheel to out two smooth edges on a strip of wall paper.
In the operation of my invention, the gage members 5 may be set with the pins 6 at the same and any desired distance from the outer edge of the plate 3, within the limit of adjustment of said gage members. The cutting wheel is then employed in conjunction with either edge of the cutting plate 9 to trim or cut a piece of wall paper which extends from the gage pins 6 over the cutting plate 9 and over the slot 12 in which it is desired to have the cutting wheel travel.
lVhen it is desired to cut a strip of wall paper and have two smooth longitudinal edges, the cutting wheel is run in one groove 12, for example the right-hand groove, as viewed in Fig. 3, thereby trimming smooth one edge of the desired strip, after which the strip may be shifted laterally the desired width of the strip and the cutting wheel is then run in the left-hand groove 12, as'
viewed in Fig. 8. A strip will thus be cut the desired width having two smooth longitudinal edges.
hen it is merely desired to out the selvage from a strip of wall paper, one edge of the plate 9 and the adjacent channel 12 may be employed in connection with the cutting wheel.
On the side of the base member 1 having the groove 2 there may also be provided a series of parallel longitudinal graduations 13, which are parallel with the longitudinal edges of the cutting plate 9 and which may be used to measure the width of the strip to be out, said graduations 13 being spaced at long distances apart.
I do not limit my invention to the structure shown and described, as various modifications, within the scope of the appended claims, may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
\Vhat I claim is 1. paper-hangers cutting board comprlslng a base member having 1n one slde a longitudinal groove, a longitudinal plate secured to said side and having its opposite longitudinal edges respectively adjacent to opposite sides and spaced apart from said sides of said groove, said plate being disposed above'and spaced apart from the bottom of said groove, and means for spacing said cutting plate.
2. A paper-'hangers cutting board comprising a base member having in one side a longitudinal groove, a bearing plate mounted on the bottom of said groove, a cutting plate supported on said bearing plate and spaced apart therefrom and having its longitudinal edges respectively adjacent to and spaced apart from the longitudinal sides of said groove, and means forspacing said cutting plate.
3. A paper-hangers cutting board comprising a base member having in oneside a longitudinal groove, a bearing plate mounted on the bottom of said groove,-a supporting member mounted on said bearing plate and having its longitudinal edges spaced apart from the longitudinal sides respectively of saidgrooves, a cutting plate mountedon-sald supporting. member and having its longitudinal edges respectively adjacent to and spaced apart from the longitudinal sides of said groove, and means for spacing said cutting plate.
4. A paper-hangers cutting board comprising a base member having in one side a longitudinal groove, a U-shaped bearing member mounted in said groove, a cutting plate having its longitudinal edges adjacent to and respectively spaced apart from the sides of said Unhaped member, and a supporting member mounted on the bottom of ROBERT'B. STANLEY.
