lie it known that I. muxn'i LA'rnAu, a citizen oil-the United States, residing at Beverly. in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts. have invented certain new and useful Improvements iii Shoe-Sleivingig Machines: and I do hereby declare thefollowing to he a full. clear. and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will eiiahle others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to sewing machines such as are used in the manufacture of boots and mechanisms for facilitatingr the removal of a completed shoe fi'oin the machine and the .starting of the seam at the beginning of the sewing operation on the succeeding shoe. 'l'he object of the invention is to provide novel aud improved mechanism for auto inaticallv reversing the machine totree the thread from the needle. and for autoniati call v cutting the welt at the completion of the sewing of a shoe. and for holding the welt end at the beginning of the seam-of the next succeeding shoe. and to further iinprove various mechanisms of the machine.
'l`o these ends the inventionvcoiisists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described and referred to in the claims. o
The various features of the invention will be readily understood from an inspection of.
the accompanying drawings and the following detailed description of the machine illusti'ated therein.
In the drawings. Figure Vl is a side elevation of a welt and tiii'n sewing machine enihodving the invention in its preferred form; Fig. 2 is asimilar View showing the parts at the end of the cam shaft on a larger scale;

Fig. 26: Figs. 3() and 31 are details Vof the thread cutting and holdingdevice: and Fig. 32 is a vertical sectional view through the axis of the driving clutches which are mounted in the base of the machine. l
The invention is shown as embodied in a welt sewing machine having the construction and mode of operation of the machine illustrated aiild described in the application of Andrew Fippler. Serial No. 447.542. tiled August 8. 1908, on which Patent No.
