To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. SABIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Portland, county of Multnomah, State of Ore on, have invented a certain new and use Improvement in Demountable Lamp-Brackets for Automobiles, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a lamp-bracket of inexpensive construction adapted for being demountably secured on the upright post of the windshield of anantomobile. Also to provide means .for locking the bracket, and the lamp globe or light carried thereby, i-n place, so that 1t can not be removed by any other person than the one l possessing the key to the lock.

A further object is to so arrange the lamp bracket that the vlight carrying part may be readily demounted and carried about as la trouble lamp.

I attain my objects in the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal, vertical section with respect to- Figs. 1 and 3, being taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3, with the lamp holding arm arranged, however,- in lon tudinal alinement with the body of t e bracket, and the mirror carried by the lamp member disposed at right angles to the latter; these arbitrary arrangementsof said arm and bracket being adopted merely as a matter of convenience in illustrating in assemblage all the parts embodied in my lamp bracket;

he body crease of myvbracket is of lrectangular form, except at the bottom, and comprises two half parts a, b, hinged together at c, and provided with companion alf neck portions d, adapted or beingv clamped on the post of the windshield frame. Nuts and bolts e secure the two bracket parts together. The two bracket parts' are further locked together by a lock mechanism which is understood to be contained in the tated by means of a key inserted through the lock shield g, so as to cause the arm f2 to assume one of the two positions shown in v full lines and dotted lines in Fig. 2.

The arm f2 of the spindle f engages with a longitudinally slidable bolt h, provided with a slot c', lin which said arm bears. The bolt h has a concaved end j adapted for engaging with the peripheral groove lc of the lamp-supporting post c having a curved upper end. The lock mechanism is so constructed that in the partial rotation of the spindle f to the right it will first move the bolt la sufficiently to disengage the lamp post c; and in the further rotation ,of the spindle f to the right, the arm f2 of the latter will be withdrawn from the bolt l1, completely, 'so that upon the removal of the bolts e the two wall sections, a, b, of the case may be'opened on their hinge. Thus it is evident that neither the lamp post can be removed nor the: bracket detached from the post of the windshield frame by any person not possessing the key for the lock. In the opposite end of the arm Z is threaded a piece o, having a ,hinge o', to which is hinged at p an arm p, carrying a mirror g; the hinges o' and p cooperating to forma universal joint. Y

In order to rigidly hold the lamp arm l in the position to which it is adjusted, I

provide a concaved clamping head 1'., mount-V ed on a pin 1" projecting from the piece o, and bearing on a spring s, so that by screwg up the piece o tightly the parts will be jammed together. h

In the lowerfpart of the frame is rotatably mounted aspool t. Onthc spool t is wound an electricl light cord. One hub of the spool is assumed to be connected, as at u, with the poles of an electric battery, not shown, and the electric cord end lv is also connected to these poles. The free end'of the cable 'v is electrically connected with the lampV socket lw in the usual manner; and the lamp socket 'is of the usual construction. The spool is 2o in Fig. 2.

A lamp bracket comprising two parts hinged together, each part provided with half of a clamping neck for afiixing to a support, a lamp post provided with a peripheral groove and removably mounted in one bracket part, means for locking the bracket parts together, and a bar reciprocable by the locking means and engaging with the peripheral groove in the lamp post.

A. lamp bracket comprising two parts hinged together, each part provided with half of a clamping neck for aiiixing to a support, a lamp post removably mounted in one bracket part, means for locking the bracket parts together, means operated by said locking means preventing the removal of the lamp post while the bracket parts are locked together, a spool journaled in the bracket, and an electric cord wound on the spool, connected with the lamp socket carried by the lamp post.
