Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAS. M. THOMPSON, OF IHOLYOKE, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN OIL-DRIPPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 13,406, dated August 7, 1855.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMES M. THOMPSON, of Holyoke, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented anew and Improved Oil-Dripper; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is an isometrical view, and'Fig. 2 is a vertical section, (part of the outside being removed in Fig. 1 to show the internal arrangement.)
The same letters indicate like parts in each figure.
E, Fig. 2, is a chamber formed within the dripper by the partitions a and b.
O is a tube leading through the top A ofthe dripper into the chamber E, diverging from the center of the dripper, and nearly parallel to the conical top, and terminating at sufcient distance from the horizontal partition a to admit air freely to the chamber E.
F is anothertube leading from the chamber at the opposite side from the termination of tube O, through the partition a, down into the body of the dripper in a line parallel to tube O, and terminating near the bottom and side of the dripper. The dripper should not be O and F free to admit air tothe bottom of the dripper, thus securing a free drop or stream from the stem, (as determined by the size of the hole,) and preventing the escape of any oil except through the stem. The top A of the dripper is placed a little belonr the top of the conical sides, forming a recess to catch the oil that runs down on the outside of the stem,
and return it to the dripper through the vent, keeping the outside of the dripper always clean.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The arrangement of the chamber E, in combination with the tubes C and F, as constructed, for the'purpose specied.
JAMES M. THOMPSON.
