The dividing of each twin plate into two halves may, according to the invention be carried out by tearing the connection strip which for this purpose isweakened at or near the middle.
By dividing the contact plates through the tearing of the connecting strip the apparatus for carrying out the operation can be made much simpler and less costly.
On the accompanying drawings an apparatus for carrying out the method according to the invention is represented.

The core piece has at its lower end a two legged fork 2 1. The spring 21 thus holds the core piece and fork continually pressed upwardly. The core piece with fork 24'has a common axis with the plunger and can move along this axis against the pressure of the spring. The two fork legs 25 the section of which corresponds with the shape of the contact plates work through guide openings in the conical head 12 of the plunger head, these openings having sections corresponding to that of the fork legs. In the lower end of the plunplunger head is formed with a side openger head there is a small anvil 30 attached 7 by screws'52 and this anvil partially closes the opening in the plunger head. With the downward motion of the fork 24, 25 the fork legs glide on both sides over the anvil. The plunger head is guided in its motion by the bore 9 in the guide box 8.
A mold 16 is placed under the guide box 8 and in the opening 17 in this mold is placed the metal case for the lamp base and insulating mass. Two pins 18 are fixed to the base 19 of this mold on which the contact plates can be placed. The contact plates are formed with holes for this purpose. The small anvil 30 is formed on its upper side with a transverse slit or groove 53 in which the connecting strip rests when the twin contact plate is inserted. This slit insures the plate being-in thecorrect position before the plunger starts .on its downward stroke.
In the opening 13 for the insertion-of the twin contact plate in the plunger head there are guide plates 54; which are screwed on both sides to theinner Wall of "the plunger head. On inserting the contact plates the pointed outer ends of these contact plates glide along the guide plates until the contact plates reach the middle of the plunger head in which position the strip is above the slit 53. The contact plate then .falls down until'the connecting strip rests in the slit in the small anvil.
The guide box 8 is provided at the side where the contact plates are inserted with an inwardly projecting portion 55 in order to insure the passage of the contact plates from the guide channel 15 into the plunger head.
The apparatus works as follows:
The twin contact plate is inserted through the guide channel of the apparatus and through the opening 13 in the lowest portion of the plunger head. The plate then lies on the anvil 30. and rests with the strip connecting together the two halves of the contact plate in the slit 53 in the middle of the anvil. 7
On the downward stroke of the plunger the plunger head with the anvil 3O descends to the bottom of the mold the twin contact plate being taken-down with it. The holes with which the .two halves of the contact plate are provided are thus brought over the pins fixed in the bottom of the mold and the pins thrust through them. The pins are pointed for this purpose.
When the plunger 10, 12 comes to rest on the bottom of the mold the core piece 20, 24 still continues its motion downward and the spiral spring 21 situated in the spring box 51 is thereby compressed.
Two verticalholes areboredin the bases of the fork-legs in positions corresponding to the positions of thetwo pointed pins in the mold.
The fork legs thus move over'the mold pins on the downward motion and'cau'se the contact plateto beheld.
As the two legged plunger 24 goes farther downward the connecting strip tears apart at the thinnest place and the two halves of the strip are bent up "against the anvil or bridge ;-piece. plates are thus placed in their correct positions on the bottom of the mold.
After this first the core piece 24, 25 and "thenthe plunger 10, 12"commence thei rupward stroke and anothertvvin'contactplate can be brought along forplacing-in the following mold.
What I claim is:
1. Improvements in the method of production and adjustment of contact plates, which are each in the form ola twin con tact plate, the said contact plates are brought into the plunger head and are there split apart, the portion oi the connecting strip ren'iaining on each'contact platebeing bent up against the side of a small anvil provided in the plunger head, thesaid contact plates being pressed down by a-core piece with forked ends movable in the plunger head until pins fixed to the mold, in which the lamp base is pressed passthrough holes formed in the oontactplates.
Method according 'to claim 1 wherein the dividing ofeaohtwin contact plate into two parts is effected by the tearing of 'the connecting strip which for this purpose is weakened at or near the middle.
