THERMOSTATIG FUEL-REGULATING DEVICE FOR GASOVE1\T S.
specification of Letters Patent.
rammed ma 11, race.
Application filed July 7, 1919. Serial No. 309,244.
To all 10. 20122 it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN E. Mn? CHAN, a residing at Lorain, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thermostatic .Fuel-Qegulating Devices for Gas- Ovens, ofvihich the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawin :T his invention relates to improvements in thermostatic fuel controls tor gas-heated ovens, and the primary object of the invento me for accomplishing this purpose, such for instance, as shown in my Patent No.
dated August 7th, 191?, the adjustment for maintaining the desired degree of heat is accomplished by adjusting the fulcrum of the thermostatic mechanism.
The object of my present invention is to.
regulate and control the heat degree the oven by relative adjustment of a gas-outlet and a halve, one ofthe members being controlled by a thermostat, which in turn, is actuate by the heat in the oven generated by the burner to which the gas fiows through the c ntrolled. gas-outlet. l
A anther cbjcct of my present invention pertains to the particular construction of the devices for controlling the outlet to an oven burner.
4 In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a-stove showing my invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a section through the oven, showing my improved device in side elevation.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the gas-controliing members of my improved device.
. Referring now to the drawing, in which iiiar reference characters designate the same parts, 1 is a stove and 2 the oven thereof.
In carrying out my present improvement, 1 provide a suit-able thermostat 3,-which has its upper end suitably connected to a casting citizen of the United States,.
A i The upper end of this casting IS the oven The lower end 7 of the casting 5, is attached to the inlet end 8 of burner 9, for heating the oven. Preferably, the inlet end 10 ot' the burner 9 is deflected upward out of line with the burner 9.
A gas-supply pipe Til is provided and in the form here shown, its lower end is connected with the casting 5, by an outwardlv extending embracing arm 12. The lower end of the pipe 11 has a gas-outlet comprising a stationary nipple member 13, and an adjustable nipple-member 1%, which telescopes the member 13, by its screw-threads as shown, so that the member 14: as it is rotated. will move in and out on the member 13. The adjustable nipple-me riber 1%, carries a wheel 15, by means of which the nipple member 14 is rotated, and this wheel has its periphery provided with numerals 16, indicating heat degrees. The nipplemember 13 extends from a suitable housing 17 and with which the gassupply pipe ll connnunicatcs. This housing 17 has a suitable hand-operated valve 18, by means of which the gas is shut oil from oradmitted to the said nipple members 13 and i l.
ln'thc illustrative form here shown of my present improvement, the outer end of the' nipple-member 14 has a contracted valve seat 19; An internal valve 20 cooperating with the valve seat 19 and the said valve is connected with a rod. 21, which passes through the deflected part 10 of the burner 9, and has its outer endQQ connected with 14 will carry its valve seat nearer-to or far-- ther away from the valve 20, according to the direction it is turned. 7
It will also be understood from this construction that the greater the distance between the valve 20 and its scat 19, the greater amount oi heat will be required to seat the valve and shut ollt' the gas that is flowing through the nipple iucmbcr It and suitably bolted, as shown, to the Wall oftoiclose the valve. A pilot light pipe 0 out of the valve seat 19 thereof. Therefore the relative adjustment. of the valve 20 and the nipple-member 14, \will' determine the amount of 'heat required to cause the thermostat to move the valve 20 to closed position. By reason of this arrangement and construction, the parts will be so adjusted that when thereg ulating wheel 16 has a numeral 300 at the pointer 23, it will require three hundred degrees of heat inthe oven 24 is connected with the lowerendof the using 17 and has its burner" end 25 adjacent the oven burner 9 which pilot is burning all the time that the. valve .18. is open to supply gas. If the heat in the ovenrises to a degree that closes the valve" 20, thereby shut- "ting oil? the flow of gas to the burner '9,
thus ex'tinguishin -it, the cooling of the valve will cause t e valve to open, and gas supplied to the burner 9. When this happens the pilot-lights the burner 9, so that;the device is again operatin .to maintain the predetermined degree of eat. The regulating wheel is. provided with. a
'ection 26 that will prevent the wheel'from eing rotated more than one revolution in either direction by striking: the pointer 23. The object of this is to prevent the ni 'ple member 14from beingthrown out 0 its adjustment. That is to say, if-it was'turned more than one revolution in either -direction, its adjustment would be destroyed,- v
The foregoing construction is simple and cheap and yet effective in its operation, and it is capable of being applied-to the ordinary stove with practically no change in the stove. 7 Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is v 1. A fuel control for ovens, comprising an oven, a thermostat within the oven, an oven burner, a fuel supply for the burner comprising a gas-outlet and a valve controlling the outlet a hand operating device independent of the thermostat foradjusting the prof.
outlet in respect to the valve, and the valve V oven,a thermostat within the oven, a burner, a rotatable and longitudinally adjustable gas-supply nipple having an outlet, a movable valve for controlling the outlet, the
- 3. fuel supply for ovens, jcomprising an -valve operatively connected with the ther- .mostat, and a regulating .member connected with .theadjustable nipple, for'the purpose described. a v
.4. A fuel supply for ovens, comprising an '*oven,a thermostat within the oven',-a burner, a'hollow longitudinall adjustable nipple 'Qhaying a contracted en with an opening, a
"valve wholly within-the nipple for control-.
ling the' opening, a connection between the thermostat andthe said valve, and a regulatin'g member directly; connected with the adjustable nipple, for the purpose described.
5. A fuel control for ovens, comprising an oven, a thermostat within the oven, a burner, a fuel supply for the burner comprising'a' stationary externally screw-threaded nipple member, a movable nipple member inclosing the stationary'one and screw threaded thereto, a regulating member connected with the movable nipple member, the movable nipple 'member having a gas outlet, a valve controlling the said outlet, and a connection between the valve and the thermostat, for the purpose described.
' In testimony whereof signature.
