While the invention may be embodied in widely different forms and certain of its features may be usefully employed in connection with warp replenishing machines other than those of the drawing-in type, herein, for illustrative purposes, we have shown one embodiment thereof in the form of a transfer apparatus for use in conjunction with warp drawing-in machines, such apparatus being adapted to load or unload the machine with the warp, harnesses or other loom elements employed, and being of such a nature as to increase the capacity and output of such machines, and facilitate the work of drawing in the warps thereon.
Our invention will be best understood by reference to the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying illustration of one specific embodiment thereof, while its scope will be more particularly pointed out in the appended claims. Y

Referring to the drawings and to the embodiment of the invention by which we have therein illustrated the same, we have shown one form of transfer, or loading or unloading, device cooperatively associated, by way of example, with a well known type of drawing-in machine 1, the latter being of the same general construction as that shown in Patents 755,861 to Field, 871,680 to Field at al., and 862,474 to Hathaway.

well as in checking up errors in the placing of the threads and correcting such errors when they are found to have occurred. In the described form of machine selecting and positioning devices are employed for the harnesses which must be carefully applied to the harnesses when the latter are installed in the machine, and carefully removed therefrom when the harnesses are withdrawn.
To reduce the period of idleness or inaction thus forced upon the machine, we have provided (as shown in Fig. 1) for use cooperatively with the drawing-in machine, a movable transfer device 4 which is adapted to present the loom elements for installation in the drawing-in machine in susbtantially the same general relation they are to machine.

Referring to the particular type of warp handling device illustrated, the same comprises a frame work consisting of end frame members 5 and (3, suitably united by longitudinal tie rods 7 and so mounted as to be readily conveyed from one point to another, as upon the roller casters 8 of any suitable construction.
Referring first to the means for supporting and handling the warp beam, near the lower part of the holder there is provided means for sustaining a warp beam. Each sup iprting arm is preferably grooved (see ig. 14) or otherwise provided with positioning means for the harness shafts so that harnesses, to the required number, may be hung upon the supporting arms in the required relation, and, if desired, po-
sitioning devices may also be employed for the supporting bars of one or more sets of drop wires, as indicated in Fig. 3. It will be seen that the harness supporting arms have all required adjustments for variations in the height and spread and the number of holders 37 carried by the transverse rod 38, the latter sustained by the hangers 39, these several parts being adjustable in substantially the same fashion as the supporting parts for the arms 3Q.
The lower supporting arm 31 (as shown in Fig. 3) may also be grooved at 40, or
otherwise fashioned to provide a support for the reed 41 when the latter is withdrawn from the machine with the drawn-in warp. The loader may be arranged'to hold the reed in the desired relation with reference to the harnesses when the latter are applied to the machine for installation therein, or the reed may be manually and separately installed in the machine irrespective of the loading device, it being ordinarily a' simple and quick matter to apply the reed to the reed holder ofthe machine.

The upper harness shaft of each harness having been attached to its spring supported hook and the lower harness shaft to a suitable stretching device such as the depending weight 51 and the reed 41 having been presented to its holder either by the loading mechanism or independently thereof, the entire loading frame can be moved back out of the way and entirely free from the machine.

The ends of the drawn-in threads are knotted together outside the reed so as to prevent escape therefrom, and the latter is 85 placed in the holding pockets provided on .31 as represented in Fig. 3. With the parts in this position the transfer frame can then be withdrawn from the machine and the drawn-in warp and loom elements, appearing as'shown in Fig, '3, can be conveyed to that part of the room or mill where the checking and correcting operation is to be carried on and where the'harnesses are to be prepared for the loom. The installation of a new warp to be'drawn in, as first described, can follow immediately the withdrawal of the drawn-in warp, so that the interval between successive drawing-in operations on the machine is reduced to a minimum.

Having reference to the harness eye separating devices, upon the described form of machine (see Figs. 5 to 9, inclusive) each separator shaft is disengageably connected to a suitable drivin device upon the machine, such device herein consisting of a socket member 53 in which the end of-the shaft is held by the hinged'sprin -pre'ssed key member 54. The socket mem er 53 is driven from a drivingshaft 55, the latter having a rotatably adjustable connection therewith by means of the crank member 56 and pin 57, which latter can be forced into engagement with any one of a number of holes 58 formed'in the inner face of the socket head. The driving shaft 55' is operated at intervals by means of a pattern mechanism (not herein shown) so that separator shafts are intermittently turned in predetermined order ness eye from a selected one ofthe five sets of harnesses employed. Heretofore, w ere the harnesses and other elements have been se arately installed and prepared in the drawlng-in machine itself, but one set of separator shafts hasbeen required and it has been necessary to adjust each shaft with its wormonly at the outset. Our invention, therefore, contemplates the employment, in conjunction with a drawing-in machine and two, or more transfer devices, also two or more sets of detachable'interchangeable harness positioning devlces.

sired, may be, dispensed with. Herein the supporting arm 59 is pivoted at 60.upon the upright support 61. The arm 59 may be turned up out of the way about the pivot, but when turned down in the horizontal position, it is there "held by the stop pin 62. Carried by the arm is a series of blocks 63, adjacent ones being separated by the spring .64, but adapted to be forced together by the pivoted cam member having the handle 66. Claims. I
1. In a transfer mechanism for warp replenishing machines, the combination with a warp beam holder of a pair of U-shaped brackets adapted to underlie each end of the warp beam shaft, means for elevating said brackets to lift the warp beam out of the holder, said beambeing adapted to roll on the bracket from one position to the other. i
'2. The combination with a warp drawing machine having means thereon for holding the warp and one or more harnesses in such relation as to permit the threading of the warp through the harness eyes, automatic thread-placin means, and a portable loading orunloa ing device adapted to transfer the warp and harness toor from the machine, the said device having means for holding the warp and one or more harnesses in the same general relation which they occupy in the loom.
3. The combination with a warp drawing machine of a movable loading or unloading device having a warp beam support, means for transferring the warp beam from one machine to the other and one or more projecting harness supporting members for transference of the harnesses from one machine to the other.
4. The combination with a warp drawing machine of a harness transfer device therefor, the latter comprising harness supporting means for holding the harnesses in a predetermined relation .and in a fixed vertical position until released therefrom.
5. The combination witha warp drawing machlne of a harness transfer device therefor, the same comprising means for holding 1n predetermined relation two or more harnesses said holding means engaging said harnesses each about the sides and between the ends of the upper harness shaft.

In a transfer device for a warp drawing machine, the combination with a portable warp beam holder, of a warp beam holder on the machine, transfer .mechanism for transferring the warp beam from the portable holder to the stationary holder, or vice versa, and means on the portable holder for carrying the harnesses and a reed in suitable relation to be installed in the machine.
14. A harness transfer device vfor a warp drawing machine comprising means for holding two or more harnesses, and means 15. The combination with a warp draw- I ing machine having means for supporting a plurality of harnesses in parallel but separated relation thereon, harness eye selecting devices, warp thread placing means, and a loading or unloading device comprising a movable support, a warp beam holder and harness supporting means for supporting harnesses thereon in the same general relation which they occupy in the machine.
16. The combination with a warp drawing machine having 'means for supporting a plurality of harnesses in parallel but and adjustable harness supporting means. for supporting harnesses thereon in the same general relation they occupy in the adapted to transfer the harnesses to or from' but separated arrangement, selecting machine.
17. The combination with a warp drawing machine having means for supporting a plurality of harnesses-in a generally parallel but separated relation, means for supporting a reed parallel to the harnesses, separating devices for the harnesses and reed, a
thread-placing device and a transfer device having a warp beam support and supporting means for the harnesses-and reed maintaining them in the same general relation to each other and to the warp beam which they occupy in the warp drawing machine.
18. The combination with a warp drawing machine having means for supporting a plurality of harnesses and one or more banks of drop wires in a generally parallel vices for the harnesses and drop wires, a
thread placing device and a transfer device having a warp beam support, and means for holding said harnesses and drop wires in the same general relation which they occupy in the warp drawing machine.
19. The combination with a warp-drawing machine having means for supporting one or more harnesses insuch relation as to permit the threading of the warp through the harness eyes, of a' movable loading or unloading device having harness-supporting means adapted to receive the bars of the individual harnesses directly thereon, saidsupports being adapted to .be brought into cooperative relation to thesupporting devices on the machine and permit the transference of the harnesses individually from one machine to the other.

The combination with a warp-drawing machine having means for supporting a warp and harnesses in such relation as to permit the drawing-in ofthe warp threads and having also automatic thread-placing means, of a loading or unloading device the machine, said device having means for holding the harnesses in the same general relation to the ,warp which'they occupy in the machine, said harness-holding means being adapted to engage the harness bars and permit the individual transference of the harnesses directly from the bar holding the body of the .of two subscribiig ED 21. The combination with a warp-draw- 7 ing machine, of a movable loading or unloading device having upright supports and laterally directed harness-supporting-mem bers secured thereto, said device being adapted to be placed in such relation to the warp-drawing machine to insert the laterally-extending harness supports over machine and under the harness-supporting devices therein to permit the individual transference of the harnesses from the machine to the loading or unloading device or vice versa.
22. The combination with a warp-drawing machine, ofa movable loading or unloading device having overhanging harness-supporting arms adapted to receive the bars of one or more harnesses, said device being adapted to be moved to bring said arms directly under the harness-supporting devices in the machine and permit the transference of the harnesses from the bars to the supporting devices of the machine or vice versa.
23. A movableloading or unloading device having overhanging harness-supporting arms adapted to. receive directly the harness bars of the individual harnesses,
said arms being adjustable, so that when said device is moved to insert said arms within the machine, the harness bars may be brought in cooperative relation to the bar-supporting devicesv on the machine and permit their transference from one to the other and may occupy on said arms substantially the same relation they occupy in the machine. a
24. The combination with a warp-drawing machine, for, comprisin means for withdrawing from the machine the drawn-in warp, the harnesses,and the reed in thesame general relation which they occupy in the machine, said mechanism having means to transfer the harnesses individually from the harness-bar holding devices in the machine to of a transfer mechanism thereharness-bar holding devices on the transfer mechanism.
