EASEL PICTURE-FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 27, 1920.
Application filed December 5, 1917. Serial No. 265,489.
1' b all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, REUBEN HALEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Beaver, in the county of Beaver and State of Pennsylvania, have made a new and useful Invention in Easel PictureFrames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to easel picture frames and an object thereof is to provide a glass easel picture frame (preferably pressed) in which the frame or marginal portion, the lens or cover glass and a projecting flange 0n the back of the frame and surrounding the picture are integrally formed.
In the drawings forming a part of this application Figure 1 is a front view in elevation of a picture frame embodying this invention, Fig. 2 is a rear view in elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation of the same, and. Fig. 411 is a cross sectional view taken on line 4;% in Fig. 3 looking in the direction of the arrows. The article consists of a frame or marginal portion 5, a cover glass or lens 6 and a flange 7 projecting from the back of the article and adapted to surround and retain the picture backing pad 8 in place behind the lens. A supporting leg 9, as is now common, is hinged to backing pad 8 by means of a hinge 10. Flange 7 is distorted or bent inwardly at points 11 while the glass is in a plastic state and these distorted portions form means for retaining the backing pad in place.
The outer surface of the lens or cover portion 6 is preferably convex as shown in Figs. 3 and 4t and at its center projects beyond the plane'of the front surface of the frame or marginal portion 5. The back of the lens is preferably flat and lies in the plane of the back surface of the frame portion. At the junction 12 of the lens and frame the lens preferably lies below the plane of the front surface of the frame.
It will be understood that the lens may be of any desired shape and, if desired the frame portion may be coated or covered with metal as at 13, Figs. 3 and 4, or otherwise decorated.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is An article of manufacture comprising a glass picture frame, an integral, picturecovering portion adapted to receive a picture having a curved outline and provided with a rim surrounding said picture-cover ing portion, said rim having relatively short arcnate portions bent toward the center of the frame to form opposed lugs adapted to retain a picture located therein.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscripcd my name this 28 day of November, 191
REUBEN HALE Y.
Witnesses I'IAIWEY WILSON, E. Bonrrn.
