IMPRovEMENTIIN sAws.
Specification formingpart of Letters Batent No. 82S, dated December 10, 1872.
i I'o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES N. BROWN, of Providence, in the county of vProvidence and y in the State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saws and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying draw' ing and to the letters of reference marked thereon'making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in a circular cross cutting saw with removable teeth having two points upon the wearin g portion, and also in the construction of the wearing portion of a cross-cutting, tooth with two y points upon an angle to the radius of the saw in such a manner as to require dressing or filing only upon the front of the cutting-points, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
. In order to enable others Skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is aside view of my circular crosscutting Saw; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a part thereof; and Fig. 3 is a perspectivview of one of the teeth. p
A represents the saw-plate for a circular I saw, into the edges of which are inserted sixteen teeth, B B, each tooth being at its outer end or wearing portion cut so as to form two cutting-points,a c. Thesepoints are set in `opposite directions, forming a cross-cutting saw, and at an angle to the radius of the saw,
in such a in anner as to require dressing or filing only upon the front ofthey cutting-point. This tooth, 4with two cutting-points, can be produced from straight bar-steel, of the proper thickness, for lessl expense than any other form of tooth. It requires less ling in use, as it is only dressed upon the front side of the cutting-points continually as it wears down.
By these simple yet important advantages a great Savin g of time and money is effected,
as there are only thirty-two points to file upon Y one side where in the ordinary saw there would be ninety-Six, and the stock of the whole `saw-plate to be filed out.
The shape of the cutting-points is immaterial, the main principle being a removable tooth with two cutting-points for a cross-cutting saw.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The removable double-,cutting saw-teeth B in combination with the circular plate A, const ructed and used as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 22d day of October, 1872.
CHARLES N. BROWN.
