- This invention relates to improvements in wind mills or air motors, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a rotatable member provided with movable vanes which will automatically assume a position to be acted upon by the wind when they are moving with the wind and to assume a position parallel with the air currents when they are moving against the wind.

ie it known that l, Einf. PLEMMoNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashburn, in the county of Turner and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Air-Motors, of which the following' is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wind mills or air motors, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a rotatable member provided with movable vanes which will automatically assume a position to be acted upon by the wind when they are moving with the wind and to assume a position parallel with the air currents when they are moving against the wind.
Another object of the invention is to provide governor means for holding the vanes in partly open position, when moving with the wind, when the speed of the wheel reaches a predetermined point.
T he invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
ln describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a view of the invention placed on a tower;

ln these views l indicates the tower for supporting the wheel at-a suitable distance above the ground. This tower is composed of the upright pieces connected together by the cross pieces and the inclined brace pieces as shown. Vithin the tower is journaled the shaft 2 which extends the full length of the tower. The wheel 3 is connected to the upper end of the shaft and this wheel consists of the hubs 4 suitably connected to the shaft and the arms 5, radiating from the hubs and carrying the vanes 6. ln this way the wheel will be rotated by the wind with the vanes assuming their closed position when moving with the wind and opening when moving against the wind. ln order to prevent the wheel from rotating too fast, I provide governor means which consist of a pair of disks 9 and a. rod S for each vane. @ne disk of each pair is at the upper end of the wheel and the other dislr is at the lower end thereof and said disks having secured thereto the ends of the rod, said rod being located acent the edges of the disk. The disks on each arm are connected together by a rod l0 which has its inner end connected with a part of the hub y a spring 1l and its outer end is weighted as at Thus when the wheel is rotating at great speed the rods 10 will be moved outwardly by centrifugal force and thus ro- 'tate the disks and move the rods S into the paths of the vanes so as to prevent the vanos from closing and thus leaving spaces between the vanes for the passage of the air.
