CABINET FOR GRAMOPf-IONE AND LIKE RECORDS.
Application filed January 28, 1820.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that T, LnoN ALEXANDER DE Brenna, a subject of the King of Great Britian and Ireland, residing at The Limes, The Avenue, St. llllargarets-on-Thames, Middlesex, England, have invented new and use- :ful Improvements in Cabinets for Gramo phone and like Records, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to cabinets for storing iophone and like records and particularly to cabinets which are divided into compartments each or which is provided with a pivoted member serving as a support for a record, which member can be tilted for the purpose of bringing forward the record.
According to the present invention each compartment of a cabinet for storing gramo phone and like records is provided with a pivoted curved cradle which snugly fits a part of the lower half of the record housed in the compartment and normally supports said record with its top in close proximity to the upper wall of the cabinet. This cradie is pivotally supported at about its midlength and is fitted with mechanism by means of which it is normally locked in position, but can, when required, be tilted so as to bring forward the record. Said mechanism may consist of a lever or draw-rod and a link connected at its ends to the lever or draw-rod and to the inner half of the cradle. This lever or draw-rod, preferably arranged to slide on the floor of the compartment, is locked by any convenient form of catch or latch near its front end, which projects beyond the front of the cabinet.
The accompanying drawings illustrate a cabinet constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of part of the cabinet. Figs. 2 and 3 are sections of the cabinet, which respectively illustrate a record. in its normal position and ready to be withdrawn from the cabinet.
1 is a boX or case which is divided by means'of partitions 2 into compartments 3, each of which is adapted to receive a record 4L. 5 are curved cradles fitting the lower parts of the records 4. These cradles 5 are pivotally mounted, about their mid-lengths, one in each compartment 3, by means of a rod 6 passing through all of the partitions 2. 7 are links which are connected at one of their ends to the cradles 5 and at their Specification of Letters Patent.

other ends to draw-rods 8, terminating in handles 8 that project beyond the front of the cabinet. The draw-rods 8 are preferably arranged to slide on the floors of the compartments 3, and for this purpose may, as shown on the drawings, be stepped and be retained in sliding contact with said floors by a rod 9 passing through all of the partitions 2 and located at a suitable distance above the upper edges of the reduced parts of the draw-rods, an arrangement of parts which possesses the advantage that the rod 9 can serve as a stop for limiting the outward movement of the drawrods. The draw-rods are locked in their normal positions by any suitable form of catch. This catch preferably takes the form of an undercut ridge 10 located at the front ends of the bottom walls of the compartments 3 and cooperating with correspondingly sloped faces ll provided at the rear ends of the handles 8 of the draw-rods 8.
To withdraw any desired record from the cabinet the corresponding draw-rod 8 is first released from the ridge 10 and then pulled "forward. This will cause the inner end of the cradle 5 supporting the record to be raised and the front of the record to be moved beyond the front of the cabinet, when it can be readily withdrawn. When no longer required the record. is replaced on its cradle 5, and the draw-rod 8 is pushed backward and again engaged with the ridge 11. The record will then be once more locked in its compartment between its cradle and the roof of the compartment.
For the purpose of enabling records of different sizes to be stored in the cabinet the latter may be provided with packing or distance pieces fitting the upper parts of the compartments of the cabinet and adapted to be readily placed therein and removed therefrom. For instance ifthe cabinet is constructed to hold twelve-inch records, it may be used for storing one or more ten-inch records by placing the necessary number of packing or distance pieces in the required number of compartments.
What I have invented and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows l. A cabinet for disk records, consisting of a box divided into compartments, curved cradles pivotally mounted in said compartments in position to support the records with their edges in engagement with the upper Wall of the cabinet, a slidable member connected to each of said cradles adjacent to the inner end thereof and adapted to releasably engage the cabinet for normally locking said cradles against pivotal movement, and
16 partments, curved cradles pivotally mounted at about their mid-lengths in said compartments in such position as to support the records With their tops in close proximity to the upper Wall of the cabinet, slidable members adapted to be normally locked to the cabinet, and links connected to the inner halves of said cradles and to the inner ends of said slidable members.
