INVENTOR WILLIAM A. ROBINSON BY Hls A'T'TORNEY WILLIAM A. ROBINSON, or MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
BARREL-HANDLING DEVICE Application filedDecember 2,1919. Serial No. 341,963.
' To all whom it may concern:
' ing is a specification.
line5-5 in Fig. 4c.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States,-residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Barrel-Handling Devices, of which the follow- My invention relates to barrel handling devices and the object is to provide simple yet efiicient means for emptying any desired part ofthe contents of a barrel or othercontainer without tipping and again righting the barrel with the hands in the usual awkward and tiring way. The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of my barrel handling device and a barrel secured therein.
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the barrel in a lifted position. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing the barrelin a tilted position.
Fig. 4 shows the lower part of the device complete as seen from the right in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a's'ectional detail View on the Referring to the drawing by reference numerals 6 designates a'main frame having an upright 7 secured to each side thereof, said uprights being retained in fixed vertical positions by braces 8. In each upright member 7 is secured a stud 9 on which is pivotally and slidably mounted a barrel gripping frame 10 having slots 11 therein adapted to be slidably and pivotally engaged by said studs 9. Intermediate the frame 10 and one of the upright members 7 is pivotally mounted also upon the stud 9 a lever arm 12 having a handle 13 at one end thereof. The other end of said lever arm 12 is pivotally connected by a link 14 to the lower end of the frame 10.
A barrel is inserted in the frame 10 by opening and again closing suitable clasps 15. The barrel and tipping device normally rests in the position shown in Fig. 1. When it is desired to empty a part of the contents of the barrel the lever arm is pulled down until it catches under a projection 16 on the frame 10. The device then is in the position shown in Fig. 2. The barrel can Specification of Letters Patent.
righted and by bending the lever 12slightly to one side the same will be released and the barrel can be again lowered to the' whereby manipulation of the former will raise and lower the latter in the main frame.
2. A device of the class described consisting of a main frame, a secondary frame tiltably and slidably mounted in said main frame, a lever arm pivotally mounted on said main frame and link; connectlon between saidlever; arm and said secondary frame whereby -manipulation of the former will raise and lower the latter in the main frame.
3. -A device of theclass described consist,- ing of a main frame, oppositely placed inwardly disposed studs fixed to said frame, a
secondary framehaving slots adapted to be engaged by said studs, a lever arm pivotally mounted on one of said studs, operative connection between said lever arm andsaid secondary frame whereby manipulation of the former will raise and lower the latter in the main frame.
4. A device of the class ing of a main frame, oppositely placed inwardly disposed studs fixed to said frame, a secondary frame tiltably and a lever arm pivotally mounted on one of said studs, a link pivotally mounted at one end to said lever arm and at the other end to said secondary frame. I
5. A device of the class described consisting of a main frame, a secondary frame described consistslidablyf i mounted in said main frame on said studs, I
tiltably and slidably mounted in said main frame, a lever arm pivotally mounted on said main frame, a link pivotally mounted at one end to said lever arm and at the other end to said secondary frame.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
