Be it known that I, ALBERT MARKS, a citizen ot the United States of America, residing at New Britain, Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Numbering-Stamp and the like, of Vwhich the following is a specification. Y
My invention relates to printing stamps particularly designed to print numbers. The object of my invention is to improve the mechanical construction by which the printing device or wheels are controlled, whereby these devices may be either automatically or manually controlled at will. 1n numbering machines of the type particularly vreferred to herein thereV is a style termed a lever machine in which the 'printing wheels are controlled by a manually operable lever. There is also a style termed the automatic in which the said wheels are automaticaly operated.

down in said main frame, a movable comb for advancing said wheels step by step, a lever frame carrying said comb, means co-acting with said lever frame for causing the same to voperate automatically onl the reciprocation of the type wheel carrier under certain conditions and for permitting said comb to be manually operated under other conditions, and means or holding said comb out of the type wheel engaging position for certain periods during automatic action to permit duplicate printing, said means having a shoulder to limit the movement or 'the comb in one direction to prevent jamming the machine.

In a numbering stamp and the like, a main frame, a type wheel carrier mounted to reciprocate between the sides thereof, a non-rotatable shaft carried by the sides of the type wheel carrier, a series of rotatable type wheels mounted on said shaft and arranged to be advanced thereon step byl step, means for moving said type Wheel carrier up and down, an inking device pivoted on said type wheel carrier and normally in cngagement with certain type on said type wheels, with means for moving said inking device into an out of the way position when said-type wheels are moved in a direction to print, means for advancing said wheels comprising a lever frame, a bracket carried by said type wheel carrier, the en'ds of said bracket overstanding the ends of the aforesaid shaft, said lever frame being pivotally mounted on said bracket concentric with said shaft, a comb pivotally mounted near the outer end of said frame, a stop on the main Jframe for engaging the lever frame between its ends to cause the same to rock in one direction when the type -said type wheel carrier,

l2. The combination set forth in claim 10, said stop shoulder being movable about a pivot on the main frame and means for locking said stop shoulder in various positions comprising a notched plate on the main frame.
