HORSE-GURRYING DEVICE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J os11 J URIGICH, a citizen of Jugo-Slavia, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Currying Devices, of which the following is a specification.

4 This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in horse currying devices. f j

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device adapted forcurrying horses, either by manual or motive power, the arrangement being such that the animal is cleaned by brushing and scraping in an expeditious and easy manner.

A further object of the device is to provide a currying device having simultaneously operable combing and brushing means, provision being made for collecting hair and dirt within the device to be readily emptied therefrom when desired.

With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same con-- sists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and then claimed.

In the drawings a device is illustrated having an elongated casing 10 of substantially the size of the usual currycomb, the same having an open bottom but provided with a cover 11 hingedly mounted as at 12,

a centrally arranged casing 13 being provided upon the cover serving as a handle for grasping the device as well as for a housing for an electric motor 14 when motive power is employed.

A brush 15is journaled by means of its axle 16 transversely within the casing 10 adjacent one end thereof in a manner to allow the brush to project beneath the lower side edges 17 of the casing while a plurality of the comb devices are arranged with their shafts 18 spaced apart and journaled through the said casing adjacent the brush 15, the same employing a plurality of combs 19 secured radially projecting from the housing 13 is readily grasped by the operator and the brush 15 and comb members forcibly brought into engagement with the animal. The motor 1 1 however, is preferably employed mounted in the housing 13 upon a suitable platform 13" secured to the interior ofone side wall of the housing, as best illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The power shaft 20 for the motor is provided with a gear 21 arranged in constant mesh with a pinion 22 carried by a driven shaft 23 journaled transversely through the casing 10 and having pinions 24 upon its opposite ends in constant mesh with the central ones of said gears 21. Covers 25 are provided for the gears upon the opposite sides brush and the combs in thesam'e direction and by applying the device to an animal the hair will be operated upon by said combs and brush.

A curved guard 28 is adjustably mounted within the casing 10 overlying the brush 15 and having a toothed edge 29 adapted to be brought into engagement with the said brush when desired. The said guard is provided with a flange 30 arranged beneath springs 31 mounted upon the adjacent end of the casing 10 permitting the vertical adjust ment of the said guard by means of inwardly extending lugs 31.- j

A similar guard 32 is provided for the brush at the opposite end of the bru'sh 15 being removably suspended within the casing by meansof terminal hooks 3'3. Suitably curved

34 and 35 of similar con structionare suspended within the casing adjacent the said guards by means of end hooks 36, the guard 32 underlying and being Spaced from the adjacent end of the pan 35, which pan underlies and is spaced from the adjacent end of the pan 34 whilethe brush guard 28 isfiarranged beneath and spaced from the adjacentend of comb 18.

In operating the combs and brushes in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2, the dirt and hair which is separated by the device will be thrown upwardly into the

34 and 35 and also upon the guard 32, the end flanges 37 of the pans assisting to retain the particles thereon while the curvature of the guard 32 and the pans assist the particles in the path of movement to their receiving positions upon the end guard 28. Whenever desired the device may be tilted with the brush 15 downward, thereby moving all of the particles from the pans 34 and 315 into the space above the guard 28. The slide door 38 is provided in the cover 11 of the casing 10 overlying the guard 28 for allowing the removal of all. particles from the casing 10 by opening the said door. In this manner the combings are prevented from accumulating within the device and the same is readily maintained in a cleanly condition while the device is readily operable. It willbenoted that the

A conveyer brush 39 in the form of a belt or apron is arranged within the casing 10 upon transversely journaled shafts 40 at a point above the

34 and 35 and beneath the motor 14. Three of these shafts are-shown arranged in the same plane and.

parallel with the aforementioned shaft 23, it being understood that the shaft 23 is revolved by the motor in the manner heretof-or'edescribed.

A suitable scraper or cleaner 43 is adjustabl'y carried above the conveyer 39 at any convenient point and preferably above the brush 15 for causing any removed particles upon the conveyer to drop back on the guard 28-. Guardsor cleaners such as 43, 43343 43, 431,: or 43 as shown respectively in Figs. 11,12, 13, 14, 15, and'16 may be substituted for the cleaner 43 in the casing 10 if desired. The comb shafts 18 18*, 18, 18 as-shownrespectively in Figs. 6, 7, 8, and 9 may be substituted for the; combs 18 if found desirable. It will be understood that in operation,1the motor.

- What I claim as new is 1. A currying device comprising. a casing,

a brush journaled adjacent one end of the casing, a plurality of comb members journaled within the casing adjacent the brush, gear connections between the said brush and combs, a housing upon said casing, a motor within the said housing, a driven shaft jour naled through the casing operatively geared ing a casing, a brush transversely j-ournaled adjacent one end of the casing and projecting therebeneath, revolving combs arranged adjacent the brush,- a curved receiving ,p'an

arranged above the saidbrush and the adj ascent comb,- a guard'forthe brush .adj'ustabily mounted upon the adjacent end of'the cas ing havinga toothed edge adjacent the brush, and an outlet door carried by thetop of the casing above the said guard.

3. A currycombicomprising. a casing; a

brush and combs arranged projecting from the lower side thereof, a receiving guard at one end of the casing and a conveyer adapted for movement above the combs and brush toward the said guard.

A currycomb comprising a casing, simultaneously operable revolving combs and brush arranged in the lower side thereof, inclined dirt receiving separated guards above the said combs and brush, an adjustable dirt receiving guard arranged at one end of the casing adjacent the brush, and a simultaneously operable brush conveyer in the upper portion of the casing in substantial contact with the said guards adapted for movement toward the said receiving guard.
