Application led June 22, 1918. Serial No. 241,381;
To all @07mm t may concern.'
Beit known that I, ELMnn QUICK, a citizen of i the United States, residing at Vest Tulsa, in the county of Tulsa and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collapsible Basins, of which the following is a specification.
ln iield hospitals, camps and other places Vwhere floor space is limited and ease oi. transportation a very important factor, desirability of a collapsible basin lor washing purposes is pronounced. It is ourpur pose to produce such a structure, in which a basin constructed of a suitable water-proof fabric may be easily, quickly and securely attached to a collapsible frame or support, and wherein beth the basin and the support may be 'folded into a small package 'for easy transportation, when not in use.
Other objects and advantages of the im- ],novement will appear the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view oi my improvement in its set-up condition.
Fig. 2 is a detail elevation showing the manner in which two of the hingedly connected sections of the device are held in longitudinal alinement.
3 is a sectional view amu'oximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. d is a detail horizontal sectional view through one of the corners oi the device in set up position.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the device, collapsed.
Fig. G is a plan view oit' the removable and collapsed basin.
My improvement contemplates the employment ol? a substantially rectangular trame. The frame includes four corner posts or legs each of which is indicated by the numeral 5. To the inner face of the legs 5 at the upper corners thereof are hingedly secured, as at 6, brace members 7, and these brace members provide the top of the frame. Each of the braces 7 is in the nature of two links which have their confronting ends connected by rule joints 8. This permits of the links being folded down wardly of the frame between the legs 5 thereof but holds the links horizontally with Specicationiof Letters Patent.

respect to the frame, when `the saine are in their spread position. One of each ci' the respective pairs of links is provided with a slidable bolt 9 Vthat is adapted to be received in a. keeper 10` in the coactingl link, and, oit course, 'when the bolt-s are raised in the keepers the links are sustained in alinement. Each pair of links, to the opposite sides of their hinged connections 8, is provided with an outstanding stud 11. ,y
In addition to thc brace members 7, which, as stated, provide the top oli' the frame, the legs 5, at a suitable distance above the bottom of the frame, have hingedly secured upon their confronting faces, as at 12, brace members 13. These brace members each include a pair of links, the confronting faces of which being connected by rule joints 14. which permit of the links being swung upwardly of the frame, but which hold the links in proper alinement whenthe same are brbught to operative position.
f With a structure as above described, it will be seen that the 'fra-me, by folding the links comprising the brace members between the legs thereof, may be readily collapsed to provide a small package, and as the frame is ot a comparatively small light structure the same may be readily conveyed from place to place as desired, or will occupy only a small space for storage or shipment. Each of the legs 5 has pivotally connected thereto, a considerable distance above the lower end thereof a brace rod Q1. Each of the rods, at its ends opposite its pivotal connection 22 with the respective legs 5 has an offset or angle portion 23. Each of the legs 5, upon the angle side thereof opposite that provided with the pivot 22, and at a considerable distance above the pivot is provided with an eye 24- to receive the angle or hook-shaped end of the brace rod 21 secured to the oppositely disposed leg. In this manner the iframe is more effectively sustained in its set up condition. When in collapsed condition the brace rods 21 will fold between the angle portions of the legs 5, it being noted that the said legs are constructed of angle members.
The basin is indicated by the numeral and is formed of some water-proof fabric. To the central portion of the basin is secured what may be termed the rim, which is indicated by the numeral 16. The rim is members 7. The corner tabs 17 are likewiseV provided with eyelets or openings which engage headed studs 2() on the legs 5, at the upperl portions thereof.,-
Bya construction of a basin as aboveflescribed,.it will be seen thatthe same may be easily' and quickly attached to or removed from the frame.. When `secured upon the frame, thetabs connecting with the studs on v the said frame. reinforce the frame and, as
illustrated in Fig. .6 of the drawings, it. will be lseen that it 1s not .necessary to remove the basin from the frame when the frame vis collapsed. It is, of course, ldesirable that the basin be in the nature of a removable member so that water may be emptied there` from and the basin cleaned whennecessary.A
Having thus described my invention lA claim:-
In a device for the purpose set forth, a collapsible frame having corner members constructed of angle irons, lower brace mem- N bers having their confronting ends provided with hinge joints and their outer ends pivotally secured to the angle irons, upper brace members having their confronting ends provded'with hinge joints opening in an opposite direction from the lower hinge joints,
pivoted connecting means between the last mentioned brace members and the upper corners of the legs, slidable latehing means in longitudinal alinement, brace rods pivoted to the respective leg members and remorably engaging the oppositely disposed leg members, .and a. fabric basin desi ned to be supported upon the top'of the rame and having tab members connected with the frame, cert-ain of which overlie the slidable latching means .for the upper brace members.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
