.TQ all whom. it hay concern." :Be'itknotvn that I, XVILLIAM W. Sanremo, a.. citizen of the United States, residing at ,.detomeyinlthecounty of Yavapai and State -o'f Arizona., "have invented new and useful improvements in Devices for Impelling Ro- Toys,of which the following 1s .aus c' cation.
` -he-object-of-my resent invention is the "7 revision of a. :peeu iar and Aadvantageous (evice'in the nature of a toy, and adapted toibo used 'for the impelling of rota-ry flying 9toys. 4 4l`o theattalnxnent of the foregoinggthe .1n- `vention 'consists in the novel construction -fand =adaptation of parts'as hereinafter describednd definitely claimed.
In -the accompanying drawings, hereby :made aparthereof:
Figure l is a side-elevation ofJny 'novel Fig.V 2 is alongitudiual section of thesame. Fig.3 isa-transverse section taken .1n the '-plane indicatedby the line3-3 of Fig. 2.
' 'Similar numerals of reference designate 'rorresponding'parts in all of the views .of
'the drawings.
1 'My novel device is preferably formed with :a view -to-simulating a pistol of the revolver type, and among other elements it includes a hand-grip 1, and a portion 2 that lextends *forwardl from and is preferably integral l,with the land grip.
Soeketed in and connected by a wood screw 3 or other means to the body ortion f2, vis a-longitudinal spindle 4, and xed'to and-dis sed in front of the body portion 2 is a casing which receives in center the intermediate portion of the spindle 4.
Pivoted-at 6 to the spindle 4 and adapted tobemoved'in a slot 7 in the easing 5 is a ftriggerlever 8 that 'is subject to a retractile spring 9 and is provided with a forwardlyextending sear 10.
-iIt-will be noted that the spindle 4, the trigger 8 and-the spring 9 are all connected tothe body portion 2 b the simple opera- 'tion of turning the woo -screw end 3 of the spindle 4 into said body portion 2, .which i contributes materially -to the inexpensivenesslof the device.
A device for the purpose described, comprising a body, a casing fixed with respect to Journaled in the-casing 5 and on the f ori Specification of Letters IIatent. Patented .Blah 1,6, 1920. i Application led August 18, 1919. Serial No. 318,216.
wardportion of the spindle 4, and pmjet,. l
l2. In the tubular'member 1l ishouse fromthe casing-.5 so-as'tolja. simulate the barrel of a pistol, is a tubular rotary member 11 having on its forward end g and off its center axforwardly projecting gin spring 13 that is coiled about the spindle' 4": I; and is connected at l4to said spindle, and at y 15 to the tubular member. At the rear end of 'the tubular member 1l is carried a ratchet disk' 16 that is fixed with respect to the said 'l member ll'a-nd isarranged in the saine plane as the before-mentioned Isear 10.
The tubular member ll is. revoluble about the' spindle 4, and when it is turned in one direction, the spring 13 will be placed underv tensionand `willv be retained in such state by l i the coperation of the Sear -10 with the ratchet disk- 16. Then .when the trigger leveris pulled to disengage the sear 10 from the ratchet disk 16, the spring 13 will operate to powerfully rotate the tubular f member l1.
It will be apparent from the foregoii'ig that my novel device may be used to advantage for impelling through the air that type of Well known rtary flying toy that is provided with a. central aperture and an aperture adjacent to but cf its center, thefor- Ward portion of the spindlefl.- being designed to be placed in thecentral aperture of the toy and the pin 13 in the other aperture thereof, so thatwhen the member 11 is rapidly rotated in the manner described, the toy will be eansed'to rise in and fiy through the air.
It will also be apparent that notwithstanding the sin'rplie-ity of its construction, my novel -deviee is adapted to afford considerable amusement toa child.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desi re to secyre by Letters-Patent,
the .forward portion of the body, a. spindle said spindle extending foru-'ardly through und beyond the casing, a tubular reroluble .member having itsrear portion dis osed in .and pivoted to the spindlev and adapted t0 the casing and equipped with a rate et disk plzy in an openingin the Wall of the casing and also having its forward end spaced rearan having a Sear positioned to normally co- 10 wardly from't e forward end of the spindle operate with the ratchet disk in holding the 5 andprovided of its center with a projection, tubular member against rotation.
