This invention relates to .in'lprovements in swcepers and has a special relation to vacuum or motor operated sweepers.
The object of the present invention is to provide a sweeper of this character, which is of simple and duralble'construction and in which the motor which is utilized to operatc thc fau is protected from the action of v the dirt. Another object isl to provide a sweeper having a brush which may be adjusted from thc outside of the sweeper casingvwithout lifting' the latter from its operative position, thereby saving time and in suring a proper adjustment ofthe brush.

Another object is to provideinovel means for regulating the distance ofthe nozzle or dirt opening from the floor, the said means comprising adjustably mounted supportmg `rollers which regulate the height of the casing or nozzle. In the embodiment of the invention illusi-v trated, there is provided a casing 10, which casing is provided with the usual opening or nozzle 11 for the passage-of dirt or dust.
Securedto each side of the end of the casing opposite the nozzle 11, is asu )porting roller 12, the latterbeing mounted short shaft 13. Mounted for pivotal movement fupon each of the shafts 13, is one end 'of a yoke 14 which extends forwardly or toward the` nozzle end of the casing and across said end. Carried lby the yoke andy positioned adjacent the nozzle `or forward end of the casing are su porting rollers 15,
so that therc'are provide( four rollers which act to support the sweeier in operation. The yoke 14 is capable o adjustment upon the adjustment upon the -shafts A13 so as to bring the forward `or nozzle end of the -casing closely to or farther away from the fioor and in order to hold the yoke in 'the desired position, there is provided a set screw 16,- which .is carried v'by the casing and which operates in a slot 17 provided in the yoke.
-Mounted within the casing is abrush 18, which is journaled in bearings at each end of the casing. These bearings are adjustable and consist of plates 19 which are slidable in guides 20, the adjustment f the saidA plates being regulated through the medium of screws 21 extending 4upon the outside of the easing. The motor 29 also operates a fan for the purpose ofcreating suction through. the nozzle 1l and deposits the same within the casing, and as the motor '29 is positioned above the casing, it is protectedv from the action of the dirt.
Located at the rear of the machine, or at the end of thec'asing opposite the nozzle 11,'is an opening 82 Which is surrounded by frame 33, the latter being covered vvith a screen and dust proof cloth so as to permit of the passage of air and at the same time retain the dirt and dust Within the casing. The frame 33 is suitably secured to the casing and may be provided with a suitable fastening device to permit ofthe frame lbeing used as a door forthe removal of the contents of the casing. The frame 33 is-'provided with a felt band or a lining 34 so as to provide a dust proof j0int.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its formproportions and minor details of construction, and the Writer is herein reserved to vmake any changes that cluding a brush located near one end of the casing, of supporting Wheels for said casing, a frame pivotally mounted upon the axles of the Wheels atfone end of the casing and carrying wheels at the opposite orfbrush end thereof, and means for adjusting the frame to regulate -oontact of the brush with the floor. l

A- sweeper comprising a casing provided With an opening, motor operated means for causing a suction through said opening, a Ibrush located within the casing`V andLextending through said opening, a slide adjust-ably mounted upon the outside of the Casing at each end of the brush, a bearing carried by each of said slides for receiving` the brush,v a reduced neck for said bearing for movement in an opening in the casing and a spring surrounding said neck; and en gageable with the casing.
