Be it known that I, ALBim o LOUIS Guerra,
residingat Paris;- France, have invented new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Percussion-,Drills,of which the following a specification.
This invention relates to, improvements-in drills, particularly to that of drills operated by compressed air: ori hydraulically, one object of the invention being to effect improvements in the construction of the cover of the body of the drill by providing said cover with a handle projecting therefrom at right angles to the axis of the body and forming the air inlet duct, and by also providing said handle with inlet controlling means. 7
Another object of the invention is to efiect improvements in the construction of the drill by providing removable cover and tool guiding sleeve for the opposite ends of the drill body, and by also providing a ring to bear against the outer side of said sleeve and common securing means for said ring and the cover, said common securing means being quickly detachable from the ring and cover, to enable the drill to be readily disassembled and to facilitate repair.
\Vith the above and other objects in View, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.

and the body and the casingis provided with: exhaust openings 23 throagh which the exhaust air escapes; This causes the dust to be discharged at a point of the drill where the dust isthe least injurious to the operator.. The cover 1 which closes the inner end ofthe body is provided with a lrandle. 2 which projects therefrom at right angles to; the axis, of the body, handle being provided with a bore which forms the air inlet duct, and being also provided with inlet controlling means 2*. Dowel pins 13 connect the cover to the body and the cover is provided preferably with a screw threaded boss 29 to enable a pneumatic thrust cylinder E ofusual construction to be secured thereto, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. The cover is also provided, on opposite sides, with pairs of spaced lugs 5 which project outwardly therefrom and each of the said lugs has a recess in its upper side as shown in Fig. 2. v
A sleeve 9 is detachably fitted in the outer end of the body 3 and is provided with an annular flange which bears against said end of the wall of the body. Said sleeve receives the inner end of the tool 10. The
inner portion of the tool also extends through a ring 7 which is arranged at the outer end of the sleeve 9, a gasket 8 being fitted between said ring and said sleeve, as shown in Fig. 3. The said ring is provided on opposite sides with pairs of spaced lugs 7 which project outwardly therefrom.
Common securing rods l are provided for the cover and ring. The outer ends of the securing rods are arranged in the spaces between the lugs 7 of the ring and are formed with T-heads 4 which bear against the outer sides of said lugs, as shown in Fig. 3 and in detail in Fig. 5. The inner ends of the said rods are detachably. fitted between the lugs 5 of the cover and are each provided with an opening, and cotters 6 are inserted in said openings and bear in the recesses of the lugs 5 of the cover. The rods and cotters coact with the lugs of the cover and ring to securely hold the cover and ring in place. By first removing the cotters the rods can be readily detached from the lugs of the cover and ring to permit the cover and ring to be removed when this is desired. Hence the parts of. the drill can be readily disassembled.
