Description

J. OJFRMZER.
improvement in Hand Corn-Shellers.
Patented N0v.12,18 72.
AM. PHOYOUTHUGRAPHIC CO-MXMSBONNES P1105555] JULIUS O. FRAIZER, OF WORTHINGTON, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAND CORN-SHELLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,958, dated November 12, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JULIUS O. FRAIZER, of W'orthington, in the county of Greene and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hand Corn-sheller, of
V which the following is a specification:
an improved hand corn-sheller, simple in construction, convenient in use, and eii'ective in operation, and which shall, at the same time, be inexpensive in manufacture; and it consists in the construction and combination ofthe various parts of the sheller as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the base of the sheller, which is a board, plank, or block, six inches, more or less, in length and breadth, and one'inch, more or less, in thickness. B is a U-shaped steel spring, the middle part of which is bolted to the base A. To the ends of the spring'B are bolted two semi-tubular jaws, 0, having teeth 0 formed upon their inner or concave sides, so that when the ear is forced through the space between the said jaws G, the teeth 0 may remove the kernels from the cob, the said jaws being held forward upon the car by the elasticity 0f the spring B, which elasticity also enables the jaws to adjust themselves to and operate efl'ectively upon ears of different sizes. The machine is designed to be set in a tub or other suitable receptacle, and the ears of corn may be forced through it by hand or by a lever, D, the rear end of which is pivoted or hinged to the upper end of a short standard, E, the lower end of which is secured to the base A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. In using the sheller provided with this device the end of the ear of corn is inserted between the toothed jaws O c, and the lever D is lowered upon its other end, so that the ear may be forced through between the jaws by pressing the free end of the lever D downward.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire'to secure by Letters Patent- 1. An improved hand corn-sheller formed of the base A, U-spring B, and toothed semitubular jaws O c, said parts being constructed and arranged in connection with each other, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. The combination of the base A, U-spring B,toothed semi-tubular jaws G c, lever D, and standard E, with each other, substantially as herein. shown and described, and for the purposes set forth.
JULIUS O. FRAIZEB.
