Description
1.1. DONOVAN..
COMBINATION BATH SPRAY.

INVENTOR \famme Jfflavovan JEROME J'. DONOVAN, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
COMBINATION BATH-SPRAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 20, 1920.
. Application filed May 19, 1916. Serial No. 98,663.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEROME J. DONOVAN, citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Bath-Sprays, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in combination bath sprays. The principal object of my invention being to provide a device of this character which may be used as a needle bath orin combination with other devices for hydrotherapeutic treatment.
Another object of my invention is to so construct the parts that they may be attached to the ordinary bath tub fixture.
With these and other objects in View the invention consists in the novel construction, combination of parts herein illustrated and more specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
Reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification,
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a double bath cock showing my improved connection attached thereto.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged view in section showing the fittings for forming a needle spray.
Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation of two single bath cocks having an attachment by which they supply a single outlet and showing the manner in which this attachment is held to the cocks.
Fig. 4 is a view in section showing one of the cocks in side elevation and the manner in which the attachment is held thereto.
Fig. 5 is a view in front elevation of a spray head used in connection with my invention.
Fig. 6 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation of the spray head.
Referring to corresponding parts in the several views by the same numerals of reference, 1 denotes a double bath cock having the single outlet 2. This outlet has internal threads 4 which ordinarily are used to engage a nipple, the outer end of which is adapted to receive a rubber hose. With my improved device this nipple is removed and in place thereof is provided an elbow 3 havadapted to slip inside of the outlets of cocks 7 and in order to make a tight joint at this I point I provide a rubber gasket 8 between V the conical end 6 and the outlet of cocks 7 The other ends of the elbows 5 are in threaded engagement with nipples 8, which in turn engages a T 9. By varying the length of nipples 8, the connecting device may be arranged to suit cocks at any distance apart, and this connecting member is held in place as particularly shown in Fig. 4. As will be seen in this figure I provide rods 10 and 11 between the cooks, one resting on top of the body of the cock and the other on the underside. I also provide two bell crank levers 12, having holes 13 and 14 through which rods 10 and 11 pass and on the extended ends 15 are holes through which pass rods 16. The latter are provided with bands 17 on the lower ends, which encircle the nipples 8 and the upper ends which project through the openings in levers 12, are provided with nuts 18. It will be seen that by tightening these nuts the rods 10 and 11 are tightened on the body of the cock and at the same time the rod 16 tends to pull the members 8 upwardly, thereby forcing the conical ends 6 into the opening of the cooks.
The needle spray nozzle and spray head are attached to the elbow 3 or to the T 9 in the same manner, in each case a member 20 is provided having external threads adapted to fit standard threads of the T or elbow. These threads are of such length that a portion extends outside of the elbow or T and on this portion is engaged a cap 21. The outer end of 20 is conical in outline as shown at 22, and the cap 21 is provided with perforations 23 opposite the opening 24 of their conical portion. On the outside of the. cap is provided threads 25 with which may 'be engaged the spray head 27.
This head. consists of the shank 28, and
the enlarged hollow portion 29 having the convex face 30 in which are openings 31 in the lower portion thereof. This head is constructed of material capacity and the hollow portion is adapted to be filled with a soluble substance 33 having medical properties.
The operation is as follows:
When the device is to be used on a double bath cock the elbow 3 is engaged therewith with the internally threaded end extending in the direction of the tub. If two single cocks are used with the tub then the attachment shown in Fig. 3 is provided which may be permanently fastened to the cooks.
The member is then screwed into the elbow or T as the case may be and cap 21 screwed on thismember. If a needle bath is desired the device is then ready for use.
If amedicated bath is to be given the head 27 is filled with a soluble salt containing the desired medicament and the shank 28 is screwed on to the outer threads of cap 21..
The head being positioned to bring the holes 31 in the lower part. Then when the water is directed through the head the salt or medical substance is dissolved and directed on to the patient along with the water.
What I claim as new and wish to'cover by Letters Patent is: r V
1. A device ofthe character described comprising a tubular coupling member having external threads shap'edto engage complemental threads of a faucet, and a cap having internal threads engaging the threads of the coupling member.
2. A device of the character described comprising a tubular coupling member having an externally threaded portion shaped to engage complemental threads of a faucet and also having a tapered projection, and a cap inclosing said tapered projection and having internal threads engaging the threads of the; coupling member, said cap having openings therein;
3. A device of the character described comprising a tubular coupling member having external threads shaped to engage compleniental threads of a faucet, a cap having internal threads engaging the threads of the coupling member, said cap also having external threads and perforations, and a spray head having a threaded shank engaging the external threads of said ca In testimony whereof I my signature.
