Be it known that we, lVILLIAM A. IRwrN and Liao li". JACKSON, citizens of the United States, and resi-dents, respectively, of the city ol' .New York. borough of lvlanhattan, in the county and State of New York, and Taunton, in the county of Bristol and State of lllassachusctts, have invented a new and lniproved Automobile-Lamp, of which the :following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to vehicle lamps and has particular reference to headlights Yfor motor vehicles or the like.

Upon this diametrically arranged .rod 27 is sup-ported a reflector 28 shown in the form of a flat panel with a mirroredI inner surface 29, the outer portion ofthere'lectorbeing opaque so as to serve as a positive dimmer preventing the glare of the light from being cast too highfjalong the roadway. The ends of the rod 27 after adjustment to the proper size of hood `may be clipped oil if they are too long so. that when the nuts 30 are applied tothe ends a neat construction is provided. The nuts 30 provide means for not only securing the adjacent portions of the hood together to the horizontal ribs 28, but also serve to lock the reflector 28 at any desired elevation or `angle according to the type of lamp-and y the local requirements as to the projection y of thelight. The ribs 23 obviously may be made of any necessary strength or rigidity to constitute a satisfactory support for the lamp hood.
The dimmer lens -20 is peculiarly constructed so as to have upper and lower spaced translucent segments or zones 20 and 20b respectively. The upper segment 205 covers substantially half of the area of the lens While the lower segment 20" covers practically only about one half of the lower area, leaving a horizontal zone or segment 20c between thehorizontal diameter of the In other vWords the shell is made of a lens and the upper edge of the lower translucent zone LOb perfectly clear so as to transmit a considerable portion of the light direct from the bulb and the interior of the lamp casing so as to illuminate the road- 'ried in advance of the clear portion. This shell is made preferably of transparent glass or its equivalent so that light may proceed laterally therethrough from the vbulb 14 for. the purposes already set forth.
