My invention consists of umbrella-rib collars and runners for the braces, with a pair of flanges 0r ears provided for each rib or brace, and the said rib or brace fastened therein by a rivet independently of the others, so that one can be taken out and another put in without disturbing the others.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the ribcollar and brace-runner of an umbrella constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal section on the line was; and Fig. 3 represents a rivet such as I propose to use for fastening the ribs and braces, partly in side elevation and partly in section.

E is the brace-runner, with similar flanges B, arranged in pairs at the periphcry, for the connection of the braces F by rivets in the same manner that the ribs are connected. These ears or flanges will be formed by casting them together with the collars or runners, either in the form represented in the drawing or in the form of a collar, which will be partly cut away and leave the flanges, or a rolled tube of metal may have one end folded or rolled over upon the side in a press to form a collar which may be partly cut away, as in the case of the cast-metal collar, or they may be made in any other approved Way. .The ends of the ribs and collars are rounded in the parts opposite the bottoms of the flanges.
