PENCIL ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 6, 1919. Serial No. 280,956.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HANS W. BORGLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Streator, in the countyof La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pencil Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to pencil attachments, and it contemplates the provision of a device of the character set forth that may be readily and easily placed upon a pencil, pen-holder and the like and when so applied and the article is put into the pocket or upon a garment, the same will be securely retained by the attachment and thereby prevent loss of the pencil or penholder.

My novel attachment comprises a pencilombracing portion 1, which is formed of a single piece of wire and made up of encircling bands 2 and 3. The metal I employ is to be possessed of sufficient elasticity so as to enable the device to securely grip the pencil.
. As will be readily seen from the drawings, the attachment consists of a single piece of material. From the encircling. portions 2 and 3, the attachment extends upwardly to the point indicated by i then outwardly at an angle of about sixty degrees as indicated by 5 and th n upwardly as indicated by 6 to the point 7, where the material is bent back upon itself. The encircling band 2 is carried around the pencil to the point 8, where it is bent back so as to form the band 3. The material is then brought clownwardly, and at a point slightly below the band 3 as indicated by 9 there is a hump.
The material is then continued downwardly and at the point 10, it bears upon the pencil and from this point 10 it extends downwardly a slight distance where it is bent upon itself to form the loop 11. The material is then carried upwardly to the point novel attachment it is simply necessary to place the pencil in the 'pocket and then force the pencil attachment over the goods at the outside of the pocket so that the portions of the attachment that bear upon the pencil will be caused to rest outside of the goods of the pocket when because of the elasticity of the device the portions 10 and 11 will prevent the pencil from becoming dislodged from the pocket.
It will be manifest that the device can be produced at a very low cost and that it comprises but asingle piece of material and can therefore be produced without the employment of skilled labor or expensive machinery and when so produced presents a device that is capable of meeting the demands of a clip or loss preventing device for pencils and the like.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s -A loss preventing attachment for pencils, consisting of a single piece of elastic wire constructed and arranged substantiallyin the following manner, viz. the loop 7 provided at its upper end, from said loop the wire is continued downwardly then inwardly at an angle to the point 4,v then downwardly a slight distance, then the pencil encircling bands 2 and 3 are produced, the wire is then continued downwardly a slight distance to bear on the pencil, then downwardly and outwardly to 10, then downwardly and inwardly, then the wire is bent upon itself at 11 and then continued upwardly and inwardly at an angle to 12 then upwardly and outwardly to 13 and finally upwardly and inwardly to 1 1, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
