Description
N. N. LUKIANOFB POCKET SCALE HOLDER- APPLICATION FILED JULY 3. 1919.
1,825,446. Q Patented Dec. 16,1919.
' WITNESSES INVENTOR AIMLU/fM/YO/T NICHOLAS N. LUKIANOFF, OF N EV? YORK,
POCKET SCALE-HOLDER.
Application filed July 3, 1913.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NICHOLAS N. LUKIA- NOFF, a citizen of Russia, and a resident of the city of New York, Woodhaven, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pocket Scale-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a scale holder, and aims more particularly to provide a device of this nature which shall be extremely economical in manufacture and simple to construct.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of this nature which may be made of a single piece of material and preferably stamped out to produce a finished article.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a scale holder which may have construction associated with it whereby the same may be securely retained in any pocket of the user and, consequently, retain any object, such as a rule, within the pocket.
A final object of the invention is the construction of a device of this nature which shall firmly, although removably, retain a device such as a rule.
Reference is had to the attached sheet of drawings which illustrate one practical embodiment of my invention and in which Figure 1 is a rear view of the device;
Fig. 2 is a sectional side view through Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a front view of the device; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional View taken along line 44: of Fig. 2.
In these various views like reference numerals designate similar parts, and the reference numeral 1 indicates what might be termed the main plate or body of the device, which is formed with a tongue 2 which is bent downwardly and toward the body 1 and terminates in an outwardly bent portion, such as 3. At the point nearest to the body 1 the tongue 2 has struck inwardly a prong, or prongs, 4, for a purpose hereinafter more fully specified. The tongue 2 is further formed at its point of connection to the body 1 with a rib 5, which provides a strengthening medium for the tongue.
The body 1 has two horizontal strips pressed outwardly adjacent its ends, such strips being designated by the reference numerals 6 and 7 respectively. The body has Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 16, 1919.
Serial No. 308,525.
a certain portion of its back bent outwardly,
so as to form a second tongue, as indicated by the reference numeral 8, which tongue extends between the strips 6 and 7 As will be noted, upon reference to Figs. 1 and 2, the body 1 is formed with strengthening ribs, such as 6, which extend adjacent its longitudinal edges. The horizontal strips 6 and 7, for a purpose hereinafter more fully specified, are bent upwardly adjacent their outer edges.
A rule, such as 9, may now be slipped through the strips 6 and 7, and it will readily be seen that the same will be held in applied position by means of the tongue 8, which will tend to force the same outwardly against the numerous faces of the strips 6 an I.
Further, it will readily be apparent that the tongue 2 will serve to' readily retain the scale holder in applied position by virtue of its bearing resiliently against the cloth of the wearers clothes, the prongs 4 entering the cloth of the garment upon which the scale holder is worn and firmly preventing any accidental displacement of the same. As has been indicated in dotted line in Fig. 2, the tongue 8 is pressed almost flush with the body plate 1, while the rule 9 is inserted in the horizontal strips 6 and 7, this serving. as aforementioned, to firmly retain this rule in applied position, the upwardly bent edges 7 serving to facilitate the introduction of the rule 9.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim:
1. A pocket-scale holder, including a body plate, horizontal strips stamped outwardly and having their main portions, including their longitudinal edges, spaced from such body plate, and means extending from such body plate for firmly bearing against and retaining in applied position a scale which might be inserted through the horizontal strips. 1
2. A pocket-scale holder, including a body plate, horizontal strips stamped outwardly and having their main portions, including their longitudinal edges, spaced from such body plate, and a spring tongue extending from such body plate for firmly bearing against and retaining in applied position a scale which might be inserted through the horizontal strips.
3. A pocket-scale holder, including a single sheet of material comprising abody plate, horizontal strips stamped outwardly from said body plate, a resilient tongue also stamped outwardly and extending between such horizontal strips, and a second resilient tongue extending from one end of the plate and being bent downwardly and inwardly, said latter resilient tongue being formed with a strengthening rib at its point of connection with the body plate and being provided with integral prongs at the point nearest to the face of the body plate.
A pocket-scale holder, including a body plate, a resilient tongue forming part of said body plate and extending from one end thereof, ineans associated with the plate for retaining a rule in applied position, and strengthening ribs formed adjacent the longit-udinal edges of such plate.
A pocket-scale holder, including a single sheet of material comprising a body plate, horizontal strips formed with upwardly-bent edges stamped outwardly from said body plate, a resilient tongue also stamped outwardly and extending between such horizontal strips, and a second resilient tongue extending from one end of the plate and being bent downwardly and inwardly, said latter resilient tongue being formed with a strengthening rib at its point of connection with the body plate and being provided with integral prongs at the point nearest to the face of the body plate.
6. A pocket-scale holder, including a single sheet of material comprising a body plate, horizontal strips stamped outwardly from said body plate, a resilient tongue also stamped outwardly, and extending between such horizontal strips, and a second resilient tongue extending from one end of the plate and being bent downwardly and inwardly.
NICHOLAS N. LUKIANOFF.
