Description

F. WOOD` Rovmc cam. APPLICATION FILED AUGJS, 1918.

ROVING-CREEL Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Dec. 9, 1919.
Application mea August 1s, 191s. serial No. 249,702.
My invention relates to improvements in roving creels having means for expeditiously and conveniently collecting the s peeder bobbins therefor. Y
In the roving creels now in use, the empty Speeder or roving bobbins are placed upon the top of the creel to be removed by an attendant. In removing the empty bobbins, the attendant frequently leans against or drops some of the empty bobbins on the thread or yarn in the creel with the result that the thread or yarn is broken. In addition to frequently breaking the thread or yarn in the creel, the attendant interferes to an appreciable extent with the work of the operator of the creel and thus retards the production of the machine.
An important obj ect of this invention is to provide a chute for the creel, adapted to convey the empty roving bobbins to one end of the creel, at which point they are dumped into a suitable receptacle.
A further object of the invention is to provide a collecting apparatus for the empty bobbins which may be applied to the creels now in use or may be manufactured therewith.
Other objects and advantages ofthe invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals arel employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 1s a fragmentary perspective of a roving creel havin my improved bobbin collecting device app ied thereto,
Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 3 is a central vertical section through a receptacle for receiving the empty bobbins, the same being shown applied to one end of the creel,
Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse section through the receptacle for receiving the empty bobbins, the view being taken at right angles to the view shown in Fig. 3,
Fig. is a perspective of the. receptacle for receivingthe emptyv bobbins, and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary vertical transverse section taken through the receptacle for receiving the bobbins.
In the drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 generically designates a roving creel adapted to receive a number of speeder or roving bobbins. The top 11 of the creel ordinarily serves to receive the empty bobbins prior to being removed by an attendant. The top 1l also serves to receive the filled bobbins.
Vertical longitudinally extending sides 12 are provided for the top 11 of the creel.
As clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the side walls 12 on opposite sides of the top 11 are adapted to coact with horizontal and vertical longitudinally extending strips 13 and 14:, respectively, thus forming chutes generically designated by the numeral 15. The outer vertical side walls 111 extend above the inner walls 12 of the chutes. The empty bobbins are adapted to be placed lengthwise in the chutes. The interior surfaces of the chutes 15 are relatively smooth, thus reducing to a minimum, the friction between the empty bobbins and the chutes. Attached to one end of the creel and communicating with the bobbins is a receptacle 16. Brackets 17 having U--shaped arms 18 serve to secure the receptacle 16 to the end of the creel. The inner side 19 of the receptacle 16 is provided along its upper edge with semi-circular recesses 19 registering with the chutes 15 to permit of the free passage of the emptyv bobbins into the receptacle. The rear side of the receptacle 16 is cut away as shown at 20 to provide for the housing 21 of the pro fpelling mechanism of thecreel. The outer side of the receptacle 16 is provided with a door 22 secured thereto by lhinges 23.Y A lock 24: serves to retain the door closed when desired. The function of the door 22 is topermit of the discharge of the empty bobbins within the receptacle into a suitable conveyance which may be placed beneath the receptacle.
In the use of my improved bobbin collecting device, a number of empty bobbins are placed within the chutes 15, and by a slight movement of the hand the empty bobbins are passed into the receptacles 16.'v An attendant may remove the empty bobbins from the receptacle 17 by placing the saine in a suitable conveyance. Y
XWhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention7 it is understood that I may make such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parte, as; will remain Within the spirit of the invention, and Scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described in v invention, what I claim l. rhe combination with a creel having a horizontal top and vertical side Walls scoured thereto, of horizontal and vertical longitudinally extending'etrips secured to said vertical Sides and adapted to coact there-With in forming bobbin conveying chiites, and a bobbin receiving receptacle arranged at one end of the chutes.
2. The combination with a creel having a top and vertical side Walls therefor,L of horizontal and vertical longitudinally extending strips attached to said side wallS and adapted to coact therewith in ,for-ming .5L bobbin conveying chute, said vertical longitudinally extending` strips extending above the plane of the side Walls of the top of said creel, and a bobbin receiving receptacle arranged at one end of the chutes.
3. The combination With a creel having a horizontal top and vertical side Walls for said top, of horizontal and vertical longitudinally extending strips secured to said side Walls of the top and coacting therewith in forming bobbin conveying chutes, and a receptacle arranged at one end of the chutes and adapted to receive the bobbins, said receptacle having recesses in its upper edge adapted rto register with said chutes.
4Q The vcombination with a creel having a horizontal top and vertical side Walls secured thereto, and horizontal and vertical longitudinally extending strips secured to Said vertical sides for forming chutes.
In testimony whereof I aiixiny Signature in lpresence of two Witnesses.
FRED WOOD.
